"The importance of understanding SARS-CoV-2 evolution cannot be overlooked. Recent studies confirm that natural selection is the dominating mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 evolution, which favors mutations that strengthen viral infectivity. Here, we demonstrate that vaccine-breakthrough or antibody-resistant mutations provide a new mechanism of viral evolution. Specifically, vaccine-resistant mutation Y449S in the spike (S) protein receptor-binding domain, which occurred in co-mutations Y449S and N501Y, has reduced infectivity compared to that of the original SARS-CoV-2 but can disrupt existing antibodies that neutralize the virus. By tracking the evolutionary trajectories of vaccine-resistant mutations in more than 2.2 million SARS-CoV-2 genomes, we reveal that the occurrence and frequency of vaccine-resistant mutations correlate strongly with the vaccination rates in Europe and America. We anticipate that as a complementary transmission pathway, vaccine-breakthrough or antibody-resistant mutations, like those in Omicron, will become a dominating mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 evolution when most of the world’s population is either vaccinated or infected. Our study sheds light on SARS-CoV-2 evolution and transmission and enables the design of the next-generation mutation-proof vaccines and antibody drugs."

In short, extremely high vaccination rates are associated with the origins and spread of covid strains that are resistant to the vaccine. If this is actually accurate, it completely vindicates what I have said earlier about mass vaccination.

Yes, this is some basic correlation study and basic correlation studies have a ton of flaws (e.g. they rarely ever truly correct for confounding variables). However, these basic correlation studies that don't adequately address confounding variables are the standard for what has "proven" that flimsy face covering requirements with no standard pore size/shape are super duper effective and that social distancing is super duper necessary, except when at BLM riots or when a state government puts people sick with covid in nursing homes.

I would love to see how the "science" loving know-it-alls would deal with the claims of this study without invalidating their standard of evidence for the aforementioned super effective and super necessary other mandates.

Relax, seeing the self-selection of the unvaccinated on the right, it makes us both happy. Darwin wins.

Nah. It's just the old and unhealthy that are dying.

Wow. Would you look at that. The overwhelming majority of deaths with covid are old people 65+. That table doesn't show all other pre-existing conditions, but it's clear from the other CDC data that the overwhelming majority of deaths with covid are with people that are unhealthy.

Secondly, you are ignoring the study Bob. lol. Wonder why.

Relax, COVID kills across the board although not at the same rate. The younger ones are excellent carriers to spread COVID ... killing those you don't care about.

Still denying the science with these low IQ takes I see. lol

Just citing CDC data showing all age groups suffer risks from COVID.

Yeah, orders of magnitude of difference in impact. The deaths from 0-30 are essentially a rounding error for your age category. lol Still ignoring the study. lol

Ignoring public health does not make COVID go away.

The study is demonstrating that one of your super-duper necessary public health measures is backfiring and you can't accept it - even as a possibility.

Sorry this just more Russian misinformation. The CDC shares the data and recommended COVID-19 practice.

What are you? A child? This is not some russian study. You didn't even click the link to see what journal it came from. It comes from the American Chemical Society, hardly some russian disinformation site. Admit it, you decided it was flawed solely because you disagreed with the conclusion. To hell with your "party of science" nonsense. You lack the humility to consider that you could be wrong about something. You and all the other progressives.

Sorry dude but when you repeat Russian propaganda, the pattern fits. What was the 1950s term, "Fellow Traveler."

I prefer CDC over your hazardous postings.

lol. So anything you disagree with is Russian propaganda? That is hilarious. What does Russia have to do with anything? The cold war is over.

The cartoon posted on the far-right discussion forum showed police officers wearing Biden-Harris campaign logos on bulletproof vests and battering down a door with a large syringe. A caption read in part, “In Biden’s America.”

The cartoon appears to be an example of the latest effort in Russian-aligned disinformation: a campaign that taps into skepticism and fears of coronavirus vaccination to not just undermine the effort to immunize people but also try to falsely link the Biden-Harris administration to the idea of forced inoculations. The image was one of several spotted by Graphika, a company tracking disinformation campaigns.

Both Russia and China have worked to promote their own vaccinesthrough messaging that undermines American and European vaccination programs, according to the State Department’s Global Engagement Center. But in addition to overt messaging promoting their own vaccines, Moscow has also spread conspiracy theories. Last year, the department began warning about how Russia was using fringe websites to promote doubts around vaccinations.

Ah, so you are deaf, "no sound argument." Actually, you choose to be deaf.

Actually there is a term, "Cognitive bias", that means some are incapable of accepting facts and data that does not match their concept of reality. I prefer to learn from science and experience.

I prefer CDC facts and data. As pointed out, Russian disinformation is wide spread in the COVID-19 world.
