Interesting comment that "load them up with batteries" matches the EPA data:
    • Efficient EV - Tesla leads the way with Hyundai and even Chevy
    • pretty much everyone else
At 25 kWh/100 miles, my 2019 Model 3 costs run $2.75/100 mi ($0.11/kWh.) That cost is in the single gallon range $2.35/2.63 at Costco. But less efficient EVs like the Taycan Turbo S, $5.50/100 mi, approach the operational cost of gas cars. Granted the Taycan Turbo S is a different class than my efficient Model 3.

Conoo front looks like the last years of the VW MicroBus. Build a microbus styled camper van body and we can let VW waste another decade on whatever nonsense they are doing.

  4. Yes, it reminds me a bit of the old VW pickup thingy.

The growth of Madison County has led to former gas stations having their concrete pad crushed and the buried tanks brought to the surface. So I began to wonder, What is the relative, lifetime cost of gas station versus a bank of 250 kW SuperChargers in Nashville?

Also, co-host @Tom Moloughney guested this week on the new Motor1 podcast to talk about all the electric pickup trucks coming, so if that interests you, here's that show as well.

A word of caution: too many infantile problems with the latest non-Tesla EVs. Everything has to work from fast DC charging to range management and we're seeing many 'weak tea' moments.

As for all the 'sheet metal art' comments (i.e., style,) they do nothing for this retired engineer. Think a brand new Mirai sitting on four cinderblocks. Great driveway art with no practical utility in Alabama.

    The ID.4 is not impressive:

I would have a hard time trading in my Tesla Std Rng Plus Model 3 for an ID.4.

To excuse Porsche for taking the car in for two days for a 'software' update suggests they have not really mastered over the air updates. If parts are replaced, OK., but it does not impress those of us who are used to over the air updates for our cell phones, laptops, and Teslas. Even the Tesla HW3.0 was handled in one day with no overnight.

I hope the 'brain trust' gets a chance to watch this review:

The initial results confirmed my bias.

  14. I'm not part of the 'brain trust' but was happy to see the Kona do so well and not too surprised. It's great that it can punch so high above it's class against newer and in some cases pricier EV's.

A technical comment: I prefer to see the independent X-axis as time at different SOC and the Y-axis as added miles. Say three curves at arrival: 5 %; 10%, and; 20%.

The cross country speed is a function of charge added miles and vehicle efficiency. Faster charge rates and higher miles per kWh is the true mark of an ICE replacement EV.

  19. That info, though, not on a graph, is available in the post. I think laid out like this, it's easier for most people to get the info they want quickly.
