As a Tesla Model 3 Owner, I posted this on a Tesla forum first. (https://teslaownersonline.com/threads/indiana-ev-penalty.13406/) However, I am sure there are others that are thinking about owning EV's in Indiana, so I had to share. Tonight I was looking around for additional credits / incentives for owning an EV here in Hamilton County Indiana. I know that lots of other states offer tax credits and incentives for owning an EV, so I thought that maybe I might be missing out on something here in Indiana. Turns out, Indiana doesn't offer any incentives or rebates on an EV. Instead, they hit us up for an additional $150 on registration. I couldn't believe it, so I checked my BMV payments and sure enough, I paid an extra $150 for owning an EV. And yes, I paid $618.35 for a license plate on my 3 for a little under 8 Months... I emailed my State rep - Todd Huston ([email protected]) to let him know how ridiculous that is. Feel free to send him your thoughts as well... I guess that no big surprise when 70% of our power comes from Coal (https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html ): I couldn't believe it so I had to share...
Do you still get a reduced rate for off peak charging at home? https://www.iplpower.com/My_Account/Service_Options/Electric_Vehicles/EV_Rates/
Dear Editor, An EV owner, I appreciate the need to fund our roads. However, EVs do what ordinary, gas and diesel cars and trucks fail . . . support President Trump's coal initiative. As many know, EVs move their CO{2} emissions to the nearest coal fired, power plant but home electrical bills are down, reducing the need for coal. Our State needs EVs to counter how LED light and and efficient appliances have decreased electricity demand. Coal fired plants are shutting down because there is less demand. Fortunately, an EV can easily add enough to electrical bills to more than make up for the lost loads of older, less efficient appliances. So lets have more EVs, especially from those who support Trump's plan to add coal jobs. The 'Bambi lovin' EV owners join Trump supporters with EVs to pay higher electrical bills and thus support coal job recovery. Bob Wilson
