I was told today because of recall 200, Hyundai wants buy back our cars

  1. I received a firm buyback offer from HMA yesterday. The amount was exactly as prescribed by the CA lemon law. I don't know how they got the mileage used for the mileage deduction - it wasn't on any service record - but it was probably the mileage some time last fall.

    I already had a case open for my 12v battery problems. The timeline was:
    • May 5: Case forwarded to buyback team at HMA.
    • May 19: Received initial letter offering to repurchase.
    • May 22: Received request from Sedgwick for documents and sent them back. Was told I'd have a number in 1 to 2 weeks.
    • June 13: Emailed asking for status. Sedgwick replied next day and said they'd request expediting.
    • June 18: Received buyback offer with price.
    I am told it'll take 2 to 3 weeks for Hyundai to get a check to Sedgwick; another week to schedule the handover.

  3. Did I miss when the "solution available" was announced? What solution is available now?
     
  4. I received a call from the "Hyundai Recall Resolution Team" last week and was told to schedule my appointment with my dealer for the "update" for my battery. Local dealer said the update could take all day or longer than one day. I expressed my doubts regarding an update to fix a defect in the battery...but I will follow instructions. I will 'update' after my visit which is scheduled for Wed. 6/23. I have a 2019 SEL, bought in July 2019

    2019 MODEL YEAR KONA EV OWNERS WILL BEGIN RECEIVING REMEDY NOW AVAILABLE NOTIFICATION LETTERS BEGINNING IN LATE JUNE 2021 AS BATTERY SUPPLY BECOMES
    READILY AVAILABLE FOR THEIR VEHICLE. ONCE OWNERS ARRIVE AT THE
    DEALERSHIP, DEALER WILL INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY, ORDER A REPLACEMENT BATTERY
    SYSTEM ASSEMBLY. A SOFTWARE UPDATE MAY ALSO BE NECESSARY. THIS PROCEDURE
    WILL BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. 2020 MODEL YEAR OWNERS WILL RECEIVE A REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE LETTER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AS REMEDY FOR 2020
    MODEL YEAR OWNERS IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT. HYUNDAI RECOMMENDS YOU
    TO ADJUST AND MAINTAIN YOUR BATTERY'S 'MAX% CHARGE'LEVEL AT 80% AS A
    PRELIMINARY SAFETY MEASURE TO ENABLE YOU TO SAFELY DRIVEAND CHARGE YOUR VEHICLE AT HOME PRIOR TO THE REMEDY BEING PERFORMED. SEARCH YOUTUBE AND

  8. What would I need to do to get their buyback people/resolution team to call me regarding my case? It was entered on 6/10. I've updated my case through the contact page and added comments about wanting a buyback and some reasons and my lease account # as well.

    I think they said it was like 7-10 business days they would contact you.. so I would expect them to call you by Thursday.

    I sent an e-mail to my case manager at Sedgwick to check on the status and did not hear back.. I will wait until tomorrow afternoon and will call him if he doesn't reply..

    Just spoke to my case manager and he said that Hyundai was in the process of preparing an offer letter to me. I should have it in the next couple of days.

    EDIT: He just sent me the offer letter from Hyundai.. It was better than I expected... so I will accept it

    I am so jealous when I hear stories like this because my experience has been pretty laggy. I am at 9 weeks in (from the date of first contact to HCA) and 6.5 weeks from the date I sent in all my documents and still don't have a correct offer in front of me to accept. I did get an offer 8 business days ago, but they didn't include my 2 most recent payments or my registration fees and so I am waiting on them to revise it. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
     
  14. I'm still trying to get a dealership around me to do the 200 recall. Didn't realize this would be the hardest step.
     
  15. The whole thing has been ridiculous. I was given two offers but not a real offer in writing. Apparently have to wait 1-2 weeks for Hyundai to approve that to get the actual REAL offer in writing. The one good thing has been my contact at Sedgwick has been very good and responsive.
    But this whole thing feels like a game that Hyundai created to slow everything down as much as possible.

    I got the actual offer that Hyundai made.. Then I also got a Settlement and release agreement that I have to get notarized. Part of the agreement is not to make any statements online or in person to anyone about it.. So, I can't disclose any details of what they offered me.
    I'm not really happy with having the car re-purchased... I wish that I could have convinced the wife to keep the Kona instead of the i3.. I like the Kona a lot better than her i3. However, she loves her i3 and the Model Y really fulfills all my car needs, so I have no need for an extra EV.. Really sad to let the car go.. Other than the battery issue, it has been the best car I have ever owned.. I had exactly ZERO issues and my battery likely doesn't have an issue either but you won't know unless you upen up the cells!!

    Here’s My Story

    The gift card: I spoke to Hyundai today and asked about my gift card that I have yet to receive. The young lady was very helpful and said she would look into it with her boss. They’d email me soon with an answer. We’ll see.
    The battery: I asked about when the battery replacement would be ready. She asked if I had a local dealer that I go to for my recall work and I replied yes, Tempe Hyundai. She explained that she would call the dealer and set up an appointment for me to have the battery replaced. Needless to say I was stunned it could be this easy. She scheduled me for a July 13th appointment to replace the battery. So I said, you mean they will have a battery there the day I bring it in to replace my defective one? She said yes. I asked if they would have the proper equipment to do the swap. She said yes. So I asked if my lifetime battery replacement would still be honored after the replacement? She said it would. Then I asked if I’d be able to charge to 100% and maintain the 253mi range that I was originally promised? She said yes again.
    Needless to say I will believe all of this IF or when I have the new battery. I will keep you informed about what really happens on July 13.

  18. Even if this is nothing but lies it's still more communication than anybody else has had. I have my fingers crossed for you that it's not.
     
  19. I haven't even gotten that far yet. I was told what the offer would be but I didn't actually get it yet lol.
     
  20. Pretty similar to what I was told. I think the bottom line is whatever they thought they were going to do 2 months ago was predicated on the belief that they were not going to get replacement battery packs for a very long time and now that clearly has changed. As someone else said above a few days ago, I suspect if you don't have an offer in writing to buy the vehicle back (not the actual dollar amount offer but the letter that says they are formally offering to buy it back) - if you don't have that already, you probably aren't going to get one now.

    I have an appointment with planet Hyundai in Colorado on July 13 to have my complete battery system replaced per recall 200. Hyundai called me two weeks after the initial recall and the silly 200.00 Visa card deal. My battery still charges to over 300 miles per charge and have NO issues since I purchased the Kona in 2019.

  22. I got my offer too. Looks good. How are you sending the signed offer back to them (email, fax or mail)? The email I received didn't specify.
     
  23. So that's 2 (known) appointments for battery replacement booked in the U.S. so far. Tumbleweeds elsewhere...
