This is definitely a software issue. When I step on the brake at the same time when I pull back on the regen lever, the transition between regen#3 and actual brake calibers doing the work is not smooth. These 2 actions need to overlap instead of being one after another. It feels like the regen disengage and then a second later the brake calibers engage in ABS mode. My driving habit has been accommodating for this issue and avoid using both lever regen and foot braking at the same time. I don't think much about it anymore in my daily driving.

My 2020 Kona EV VIN shows the recall 199, but, as you said no remedy as yet. I just read an article from Reuters stating the recall was being done in S. Korea currently, but not yet in the US. They must be testing the remedy there first.

My 2019 Kona EV goes in tomorrow for the Battery 'Safety Recall'. I took it in several months ago for the Battery Management 'Service Campaign'. So they won't have to do as much tomorrow to satisfy the Safety Recall requirements, unless they find the battery has to be replaced; but have heard that is quite rare. About the Anti-lock brakes recall - I too have seen that it exists, but there is no fix for it yet. I find that extremely hard to 'swallow'. I really don't understand that a problem exists, but there isn't a fix for it. So far my Kona EV has worked very well and hope nothing gets messed up during the safety recall work. (fingers crossed).

A VIN search on my 2019 Kona in Australia does not show recall 199. It does have a braking issue where applying brakes after it is already regenerative braking triggers the anti-lock resulting in a tenancy to reduce the braking force but that then means the rear brakes are not assisting. Only an issue if I push it along a little in traffic.

Just got a call from the dealer for #199, should take 2 hrs. I'll figure 4, like last time. In fact, maybe I'll just leave it there for next week's recall.

Was scheduled for recall 196 done at the end of the month. Called dealer in regards recall 199, and she said there's currently a software fix to that. She scheduled both recalls to be done on that same day.....will take 5-6 hours though....OMG.

  9. The recall for my vehicle now shows up. It is called R0178 (TBAR0178) here in Canada. Will have to call my dealer next week to see if they are ready to deal with it, and how it will take.

  10. I get the same online notice, according to the Hyundai site a remedy is not yet available. Which makes you wonder why even bother issuing a recall if you don't have full comprehension of the problem and even an interim solution. Its like Hyundai saying " fyi your brakes might randomly not work, but hey don't say we didn't warn you!"

  11. Mine shows up as well:
    It states:
"Issue: On certain vehicles, an abnormal sensor signal to the integrated electronic brake (IEB) system could cause sudden reduction in braking performance. If this happens, a brake warning light will turn on in the instrument cluster. Safety risk: reduced braking performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the IEB system software."
I wonder if it affects regen as well as I use that to slow down quite a bit, but if snow gets on the road, I will usually reduce that and tend to use the actual brakes more. Not real good timing:(

I got a recall on my 2020 model for rear brake pads. I complained on noise from my rear brakes. Need to set up appointment to get them installed.

  14. I got recall 196 done last week. Today the service manager called me because I did not leave them 5 star review. On the call she mentioned the new recall 199 about electronic braking system. I check autoservice.hyundaiusa.com and yes my car is affected too.

I've had no such issues with the braking, and the integration seems quite smooth and
effective. The only time I get any lurching is when popping into neutral at level stops
just before the car stops moving, but at that point I'm prepared for anything the braking
response might do. What's more important to me right then is being able to pulse the
brake lights at whoever's arriving behind, to draw their attention, without me creeping
forward. It's also a little nicer for those waiting behind to not have my brake lights
blasting them in the face the whole time.

The only minor annoyance is a little rotor-rust noise from the rear sometimes, and I've
pulled the wheels to confirm that everything's fine back there.

  16. My recall letter appeared claiming an update is now available, 30 min.

  17. I spoke to the service manager about this recall today. He said they are aware of it but have no resolution from Hyundai yet.

The recall notice has not arrived in Australia.

  20. Just got off the phone with the local service centre, apparently a software fix did arrive within the last 2 days (Canada) and I have mine booked in for January 7th, so just a heads up;)

  21. This is the third recall I am aware of and and the fix is always a software update. I am a software developer and the thought of how much is controlled by a software in this car scares me a lot.

Our Australian Jan 2020 Kona received this recall last week via an email

  23. Not had a new car in a long while? :) Not only are there multiple prioritised CAN networks on board but also a firewall to protect all of them from curious owners like ourselves. I only dabble in python and Arduino programming but I'm confident that it's safely implemented. Having said that, self-driving scares me because the software can only be as good as the hardware supplying the input data.
Does all of Australia use the same Hyundai importer?
