Are you tracking it yourself at all? You should be able to call ASK-MINI and find the name of the ship your car is on at this point :)

  3. The car is still going to be in production and end up at a dealership for sale whether your name is on it or not. It's up to you to delete the car from your garage page. Click the circled X to delete. You should have gotten an email or doc in snail mail confirming the cancellation, or get a cancellation confirmation # over the phone. I agree. I'm sure the dealer would absolutely lose faith / my business if they told me that I had to honor the original order, despite our agreement on how to proceed, my Thursday email and follow up phone call on Friday. I don't see that happening here, particularly if even have to get the manager involved.

Nice. I just clicked that and it went away. Let's see what happens now!

The verbiage for the deposit seems unchanged. So

    ORDER CANCELLATIONS

It is the Customer's responsibility to arrange the cancellation of the pre-order and the refund of the on-line deposit directly with the Dealer. Please note that all cancellations are final - you lose your priority to purchase one of the early production units once the order is canceled.

That means you are eligible to get your money back if they did hose it up. Though my dealership says they sometimes do get cancelations - finances change, need car asap, found one on lot close enough etc. So like I said I wouldn't sweat it. Though I still would've tracked the other Mini just to see lol

    Refundable - see above

It may vary by state, but at least in California, a deposit on a car is always refundable. Even if I showed up to collect the car and looked at it and said, “nah, I don’t want it,” I’d get the deposit back.

It turns out the dealership decided to keep the production on mine going because they wanted it for their inventory: they liked the build I chose.

Mostly, that's an exact reflection of what said: they will have no issues selling it, as it will arrive a couple of months before the first 2022s, and anyone who decides they want one now, especially one as beautiful as the one I specified, will eagerly pick that one up!

    ;)

Not shocking in the least. My dealership has one demo now but none others stay in stock. They built all with Sig+ and black leather oddly enough which is what I chose. I bet yours will sell super fast.

We cancelled our build order when we were informed of an SE very similar to what we wanted being in-transit to another dealer (Scottsdale, AZ). Both dealers are part of the Penske conglomerate. We had not been assigned a build number yet, even though it had been over two weeks since ordering the build, and were assured by both dealerships that our $500 build deposit refund was not a problem. To make a long story short, it took numerous emails and three weeks to finally get the refund. Since it is a smallish Mini dealer (Tempe, AZ), I think they just cancelled our order rather than keeping it for their own inventory.

I placed an order for my first EV and first MINI (!) last Saturday and I haven't been notified about a production number just yet (though I also haven't asked just yet). However, when I placed the order, the dealer said that MINI had stopped allowing the customer to track order production online. Is that true? If it is, do I need the production number at all?

Has anyone had this happen to them?
Our Mini was scheduled for week 40 which starts today, Sept 26. (Confirmed just last week by Ask-Mini.
On Friday, the status reverted from Scheduled for Production to Order Received.
I can't call Ask-Mini till tomorrow to ask what's up. Is this something anyone else has seen happen? Hopefully it's not true - or an indication that we are back in the queue........after 2 months of waiting for production to start, that would really tick me off.
    Thanks!

Definitely not true. You need the production number for the Mini Owners Lounge and if you ever call 1-866-ASK-MINI, which usually has more useful information than the online tracking.

As you may have read in the post after yours, MINI's online production-tracking system leaves very much to be desired. How is it that Ask-MINI has access to information that is more accurate than the problematic on-line line-graph? No other forum member has reported that MINI has stopped allowing the customer to track order production online. After you join the other forum members incessantly visiting that production-tracking web page, I hope the dealer representative who told you it was now impossible will explain what they were talking about--assuming they don't withhold your production number to prevent you from tracking it online.

  18. How long from putting down your deposit does it take to get a production number? Is there a certain time of the month when new numbers are issued or something? I’m out past a month and still don’t have one. I’ve sent an e-mail off to the salesperson at the dealership, but he’s slow to respond.

So I'm in the midst of tracking a MINI SE order (placed 8/28, built 9/28) and for a while I was getting information from the automated robot at the ASK MINI number as well as from the MyGarage site. The automated robot seems to have disappeared on the 22nd and all it will do now is tell you to go to the MyGarage site. So one of the methods disappeared, but not the whole method.

It's a bit of a shame as I had gotten the 9/28 date from the automated system when it existed and the web system never gives out a date. I had ordered a Mini back in 2012 and this was the same back then. Having both systems definitely helped.

Also, while you can say their tracking leaves a lot to be desired, we also ordered a Jeep Wranger a few days after the MINI and to track with that you have to go into a customer service chat window and type a few sentences (which I now have on cut and paste) and then you get back a response that varies from person to person and day to day even when the actual build status hasn't changed. So the online version MINI has is much better!

But as of today at least, it's definitely very possible to track the build status.

We ordered on 8/28, I started tracking on 9/1. I can't remember if I had the production number before that and hadn't bothered to put it in the web site. I think I just didn't ask for a few days because I knew from experience nothing would happen for a few weeks, but you should have the production number essentially right away once the order is put it in. I'd call the dealership and not hang up until they find it. I had to do that with a Jeep that we ordered a few days after this. Our dealer wouldn't call us back or answer the phone. After talking with a few people at the dealership that implied that only the person that sold us the car could help us I finally got to someone helpful and got the numbers I needed to track.

Times have varied greatly this year. It is really hard to predict for certain. And, unfortunately, I think until you have a production number, you are at the mercy of your salesman to provide you updated information. After you get the prod number you can then call Mini USA.

  22. Today I finally got a production number from the dealer, and the car is already in “production begins” status. Things are looking up!

I am 3+ weeks in. Put my credit card in for the deposit. Have yet been charged. Dealership said has to wait for the slots to open to put my order in. He said could be months. I am getting so impatient
