  1. I'm at about 22k miles and have had the hiss since about 1,500 miles. I only can hear it if the windows are down and i'm driving slow next to solid objects like a wall or something like that. But I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not since I've seen some mention here, but I now have a whine or buzz happen when I decelerate/brake and sometimes when accelerating as well. It usually happens above 30mph but has sometimes happened at all speeds. It wasn't consistently happening at first, but now it is always there. Although the volume of it can vary. I can really only hear it when the windows are closed and I'm not playing music. Sounds like it's coming from front and center. Plus when coming to a stop, it it much louder and almost sounds like a puttering. I'm calling this week to set up an appt. The dealer has been pretty good so I hope they are not going to try to blow it off.

  3. Sounds like you are in the right place. Unfortunately... :(

  4. I'm bringing mine in to be looked at today. A few questions if it's the gearbox to be replaced:
    1) Do they have to order it and is that a long wait?
    2) Should I avoid long drives? It's recently gotten louder. Can it damage the motor if it goes on too long?
    3) Has anyone that's had this done have it re-occur later?

  5. Mine took about 8 weeks to arrive after ordering. Others had a faster turnaround, some longer. I think it depends on location sometimes.

I continued to drive. Why not? They're replacing the entire drive train, which includes the motor so you'll be starting with a clean slate. Drive that sucker into dust!

I've heard of it repeating. I think in Europe there were some examples but I'll leave it to the group to chime in.

  6. Well, the Service guy knew it right away from my description it's prob the gear box thingy. They didn't mention about replacing the whole drivetrain. They still had a Hyundai tech help them the next day after I left it. I think they just did some tests via the phone with them. They gave me a rental (Paid for by Hyundai directly) and I left the car there. Honestly, that noise was driving me batty, so I'm glad to not be driving it.

So I guess I'll have the car a while. If it lasts a few weeks and still no parts, I may put in a request with Hyundai corporate for some reimbursement to me since I'm paying for my lease while I can't use it.

I'm also just hesitant to keep the car after the lease ends 10/2023, since I'm not confident it will not happen again. Is this something covered under drivetrain warranty? (I may not be identifying that correctly by name).

  8. The entire drivetrain is covered for 96 months or 160,000km.

  9. Better check again...according to my 2021 manual (page 5-service passport), the powertrain warranty is 5 yrs/100,000 km.
The EV system and (FWIW the hybrid and plug in hybrid system) do carry that 8 yr/ 160,000 km warranty.
I did pay for the extended warranty (8 yr/ 160,000/km) which does indeed cover transmission ;)

  10. Here's the page. Is it because mine is a 2019?

  11. Definitely different to mine, it must be. At least the HV pack still retains 8 yrs/ 160,000 km

  13. Definitely happier with my version. ;)

  14. Well, a week after I left my car at the Dealer's service dept, I got my car back today. The part came in this morning. The whirring noise is gone. The gearbox thingy was replaced. I'm not sure if it's my imagination but the car feels so much smoother. I do still have a hiss sound that I can only hear if im at low speeds and a wall or something is to the side of the car.

Is the gear box part of the 10 year/100,000 warranty in the US (or is it 8 yrs)? I'm wary of it happening again.

  15. The mechanics sure did, however it landed on "bankrupt"
    :)

  16. There's other posts about VESS diconnection. I have mine disconnected (2022 model) and the car has taken absolutely no notice of it and neither has my dealer. If only I could cure all the other annoyances as easily.
