Percent of BEV and PHEV sales as compared to all light vehicle sales in USA. I calculated Aug YTD wrong last month August 2018 YTD: BEV = 0.96%, PHEV = 0.68% September 2018: BEV = 2.35%, PHEV = 0.75% September 2018 YTD: BEV = 1.12%, PHEV = 0.68%
A little snarky, it would be neat if the announced EVs and plug-ins could be added to monitor the spread between promised and delivered. Bob Wilson
Well, I don't remember InsideEVs ever saying a specific number of EVs would be delivered within a specific month. I know that Elon originally targeted beginning of this year as 5000 Model 3 per week, and only achieved that in July, but it wasn't a promise or commitment. How about you do the legwork of finding examples of announced deliveries for several brands and promised dates to show us how it is done.
Is that supposed to be an answer? I am just an EV enthusiast who likes to make comments on this topic and "us" refers to all the readers of this thread.
I believe he's suggesting we add announced new models and projected volumes. So, if, for example, VW says they will begin delivering the I.D. Hatch in 2019 and will produce such &such a number that year, we include that data in our sales chart. I think he's (mostly) joking, since that would be rather unwieldy. A tracker for new electric models, as they move from concept to production, would be interesting, but it would have to be separate from our sales data.
That's a fair cop: I was thinking have an entry for the announced model with "0" units until the first is sold. Re-read Samuel Taylor's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the "0" are hanging from the VW neck of announced vehicles. Bob Wilson
I thought it was quite clear he was joking, or at most wistfully asking for what he knows is, if not impossible, then at least extremely unlikely to happen. Unfortunately, as I have learned through bitter experience in many years of participating in various formats of internet discussions, both e-mail based and forums like this, which used to be called "bulletin boards"... I've learned that ironic humor often does not come across in dry text. That's one of the biggest reasons why emoticons were invented, and why they're so commonplace in discussions like these. If you have not made your intended irony or sarcasm extremely obvious, then please use a smiley to indicate you're not serious! Otherwise, there will be sure to be those who will think you are serious.
LOL! But the accursed Ancient Mariner had only a single albatross hanging around his neck, and VW has collected... well, at least dozens, and possibly scores! Every Internet discussion is enhanced by random Monty Python references.
My latest projection for US new car sales prediction influenced by Model 3 success. Data taken from InsideEV sales.
Update USA BEV and PHEV sales as a percentage of all USA sales: October 2018: BEV 1.79%, PHEV 0.72% October 2018 YTD: BEV 1.30%, PHEV 0.76%
Update USA BEV and PHEV sales as a percentage of all USA sales: November 2018: BEV 2.23%, PHEV 1.08% November 2018 YTD: BEV 1.28%, PHEV 0.73%
Update USA BEV and PHEV sales as a percentage of all USA sales: December 2018: BEV 2.29%, PHEV 0.82% 2018 : BEV 1.38%, PHEV 0.73%
This graph is the first years of the previous graph showing actual data points with best fit overlay.
Is it possible for InsideEVs to produce the same data tables and graphs for European and Chinese sales? As always I urge Inside EVs to graph BEVs and PHEVs separately, and I am happy to see this been done more. Also nice to see graphs showing percent of market. I really like that InsideEvs produces monthly data and graphs, but I wonder if this is sustainable as more companies go to quarterly reports. Might be reasonable for InsideEVs to switch to quarterly as well. Maybe monthly with caveats about estimates and quarterly more detailed and more graphs to emphasize the greater accuracy.
Even though Tesla and GM only report quarterly, I like you best efforts to ‘fill in the blanks.’ Bob Wilson
IEVs editor Steven Loveday recently responded to a comment asking a similar question. He said that they were kept busy enough preparing the monthly U.S. sales chart, and had no intention of doing the same for other regions of the world. He said something along the lines of (paraphrasing here) ~"We leave the European market to ev-sales.blogspot.com, and they leave the U.S. market to us."~ I'm glad that InsideEVs' monthly sales chart does now include a line at the bottom for total worldwide sales for the month. That helps put things into perspective, altho if course it's not broken out by individual models the way U.S. sales are.
