I guess Honda in their infinite wisdom thought it was long enough.

LOL, but you're ok with a cord and box hanging from your ceiling? My setup is way safer than what you got there.

Don't jump the gun there little buddy, that was a one time setup to show how ridiculous it looked. I'm currently using my Volt charger to test charging speed because GM actually gave us usable cord length. That Honda charger took a dive in the garbage this morning as I didn't have the heart to give such a useless device to any self respecting PHEV/BEV owner lol.

Ahh, so your normal charging setup is now a 'one time' deal? Which is it? You threw away the OEM evse (manufactured by Panasonic and is used by several different manufacturers)? A quality 12gauge extension cord would have solved the issue. Your other posts on this site haven't exactly impressed us with your research done on your purchase.

Yes, it's in the garbage where it belongs. I already have a charge cable that was built properly the first time without having to jump through hoops or making additional purchases to make it work for my purposes. Now the car is that much closer to meeting my expectations

I do think that of all things to get upset about, the length of the cord on the Clarity's OEM EVSE is way down on my list.

  9. You threw that cable in the garbage? You should have that car taken away since you are so irresponsible. Seriously stupid thing to do.

Honestly I wasn't that upset, just highlighting the shortcomings of Honda's many silly decisions when designing this PHEV. Just like with any car, there are things to like and not like, this is just one of those things I don't.

Irresponsible for throwing my own property away? This isn't China dude, I can do whatever I want with things I own.

Just as a point of curiousity...
What are the actual lengths of the Honda and GM EVSE's?

I can't say about the Honda, but I'll measure my GM tomorrow. But I consistently get an extra 1-2 feet with my last car parked exactly the same

I'll measure the Honda EVSE when I return home tomorrow and we can have a quantitative comparison.

  16. Clearly you’re assuming a risk not in evidence.

And the problem, as such, is quite easily solved with a short appliance-style extension cord.

That’s our “overnight” setup. For quick “top off’s during the day, we go the 240v/stock EVSE cable route quite efficiently.

  18. We respond in an attempt to assist other owners. If you’re just going to complain about easily solved problems and insult other owners, your future on this forum may be devoid of helpful advice.

If you take a breath and flatter us by reading some of our posts, you’ll discover that we’ve all been critical of the car, and some of Honda’s decisions, in one way or another. Like anything, the car has both desirable and undesirable features.

I don’t believe any of us are as enamored with the car as you appear to be with all things GM. So, cool your jets until GM poops out your dream car and we’ll see how we can assist you, until then, with your Clarity.

    And read the manual.

I am sure you can throw anything you own in the garbage can if you like (as long as you get them properly sorted and put in the right trash/recycle bin. I am not sure what you are trying to say. Do you have the right to throw you own cable? I don't think anyone is stopping you (one forum member asked if he/she could get it from you instead of seeing a good product wasted in a landfill. but that's about it). People are just saying it's foolish. You are entitled to your opinion about Honda EVSE. When you post on a public forum, people can respond and are entitled to theirs. It's that simple. Now take a deep breath, walk away from the forum for a day and enjoy the beautiful season and time with your important family members. Cheers!

may be a good idea to also waterproof the connection between your extension cord and EVSE plug for safety during the rain. just saying

My charger to extension connection has been out in the Florida rain for 5 months and worked fine and I have not been electrocuted. Luck?

My, my. What you did is a Commiefornia felony. Electronic stuff is not allowed to go to the landfill. It must be taken to an e-waste disposal site. Don't ever let them know your address, they will come in the night to arrest you.

  23. Have you been involved in any car accidents in the last 5 months?

If not, why did you bother to wear a seat belt?
