Agree. Seems way too high. I hope other quotes are better.

I am still trying to wrap my head around how it would cost that much. Let's say $2000 tops for material costs. Where is the other 4k coming from. Hopefully other quotes make more sense.

Get several quotes. That price is sky high. Sounds like they don't want the job.

"Hey, Joe! We got another one of those rich eelectric car guys who needs a socket! I'll be able to pay off the boat sooner now."

Just chatted with another electrician about the insane quote I got yesterday. Will need him to come out for a real quote, but agreed that the original was double what it should have been. He suggested maybe they did not want the work!

Glad you contacted an electrician whose boat is already paid off.

I was going to quote $2000, but since you told me the last guy was asking for $6800, I’ll give a bargain of 50% off what he said.

So true! I can really just do it myself, so next quote will be more of a consultation.

The old trick is to tell the electrician you want a NEMA 14-50 line for your welding equipment.

I had a friend of mine refer a plumber to me... it was someone he knew pretty well. Quote came in pretty high and I ended up doing the work myself. Talked to the friend later and found out the plumber really didn't want to do the job.

So yeah, I agree... electrician didn't want to do the job for whatever reason.

I've brought this up quite a few times now but might as well say it again here!

If you don't tell the electrician your install is for an EVSE, it won't be to code because you'll get the wrong gauge wire. The key difference is the "continuous duty" for the EVSE means you can only use 80% of the rated circuit capacity.

You could try telling the electrician you want a nema 14-50R with 6/3 wire but it'll be pretty obvious why... and if they're stupid enough to fall for that you probably want to find a different electrician!

I think the best option is to ask for a welder install and then after you get the quote say you changed your mind and want it "future proofed" in case you get an EV and see how much the cost changes

It seems that everywhere the work of an electrician has become more expensive and I understand why.

It seems that everywhere the work of an electrician has become more expensive and I understand why. I once needed an electrician urgently because in the pandemic, due to heavy rain, something broke down, and I needed light for work. And it took me about three days to find one that would be free, and it turned out quite expensive. I decided to take an interest, and everything was clear to me after reading this article https://www.electricianclasses.com/electrician-training-cost/. The problem is that few choose this profession, but the number of vacancies for them each year increases. I feel like this is just the beginning, and they will be even more expensive.

We are having ours run next week and the cost is $625. He is also doing some other work we've been putting off. We thought it was a pretty good deal.
