I’m an EV newbie so be patient with me on this. 2021 Hyundai Kona EV Ultimate. On a long freeway trip to the Colorado mountains which is better to use: normal drive or ECO drive?

  2. Throttle mapping action is changed allowing more regeneration using ECO mode, not much else changes (except the dash display)

Does ECO mode use more battery though at prolonged high speeds?

  4. No. It’s unlikely to make any measurable difference, same with the various regen levels. The different go-pedal mapping in ECO is only intended to discourage you from driving faster.
High speeds, rain and use of resistive cabin heating will make far more significant differences.

The best thing you can do to maximize your range is to not go super-high speeds (tempting as it is on a long highway trek) and be moderate on the AC use -- you can keep the cabin reasonably comfortable without making it frigid. Or you can decide to say to hell with it and go as fast as you want so long as your route has sufficient charging options.

  6. Hi i have the same ev and have found using the seat and steering wheel heaters uses a lot less power than the cabin heater jim

Definitely. Though in August, AC may be more of an issue than heaters.

  8. in hot weather i use the seat coolers in stead if i can althought the air con is much more efficient than the restive heater

If you have read my past threads I always say just drive the car the way you like I use ego mode . seat coolers are great. I use all the functions. AC Heat etc.The amount of KM's you loose is minimal. If you do worry just charge up 20 or 30 kms sooner.

No it's the lowest mode of driving... sports mode is the highest. It makes the Kona feel like a rocket

I have noticed besides lower speeds, using 0 regen and rolling freely and driving within +/- 2.5 miles of intended speed also helps with the range.
