Do I really need to install an EV charge point at home?

    I have a 3d party App, TezLab $30/yr, that parallels the 2016 bought, JuiceNet 40 Pro server metrics. Tesla does not have L1 or L2 charge tracking but we do get SuperCharger billing.

    I admire the 15 minute walk to and from the car at the free charger. That is typically the duration of my daily dog walk. In contrast, my EVSE is adjacent to the back door, 15 seconds, which minimizes exposure to foul weather and other risks.

    The Hyundai app Bluelink monitors the charge in real time, but it doesn't give you any data after the charge is over. I frequently use Bluelink to monitor our Kona's charging, whether away or even at home, as it will send me either a text or a push notification when I've reached my preset battery percentage. One of the reasons we purchased the Chargepoint EVSE was because of all the geeky data you get in real time and stored for later use. Many of the public EVSEs in our vicinity are Chargepoints, so I was familiar with their hardware and began using their software before we bought our own Chargepoint. Bluelink is OK, but I wish it had a few more features and was a bit faster to respond.

    Dude, you really are WAY off the mark. You were the one who trotted out the ad hominem. Why is beyond me. Go re-read the initial post that started this whole discussion. The purpose of the thread was the question as to whether level 2 charging was needed or not. I'm baffled as to why you've bared your claws. You've read much into my posts that is not there. As an olive branch I'll offer up a virtual toast with the relaxing adult beverage of your choice. This isn't hill I want to do battle on.

    What have both a 2014 BMW i3-REx and 2019 Std Rng Plus Model 3. Both have OEM instant status but no history. In contrast the JuiceNet 40 Pro has always recorded the charge history.

    A new App, TezLab, monitors the Tesla and makes trip records. It doesn't have the detailed charging record but does a system wide, trip analysis. There is a third option, video recording of a charge session.

    I've used video to record charging rates at a SuperCharger during a session. This is similar to the technique used by some of the reviewers and well appreciated. I have another App that has access to the data but reporting is not good for trend analysis.

  8. I am not sure what more you want. It notifies me when charging is done, and I can just hit refresh on the BlueLink to get the latest more data if I want. I use it mainly to see where my charge is at, and when I should head out to pick up my car. And the car itself keeps a lot of charging data if I want to look at that.

    When the car was newer I looked more at the geeky data, incl my cell voltages (to see how well the battery is balanced) with my Soul EV Spy. But don't do that very often now. I am not sure what I am missing, or at least that I would want.

    And I have never used my portable EVSE (level 2) at home (except to test). I have yet to pay for a charge, anywhere, incl on trips, since I owned the car. We have a lot of free charging where I live, so take good advantage of that.

    So I had my electrician out to install my level 2, and I mentioned that my level 1 charger said fault when using my 120V in the garage. Even those that simple tester showed all good, he thought it was likely a subpar ground. He added another ground to that circuit and now the Kia charger works fine. Of course I will not need that 120V charger in my garage in a week or two when 240V is brought to my dedicated EV breaker box.
