  1. I had the same issues with my dealer. It took almost 11 months to get the car. When I bought it was estimated 6 months. Be prepared for the price increase and you sign the new contract when you get the car...

  3. When I was in yesterday to pick up my car after the traction motor replacement I talked to a salesperson and asked them about how their EV sales were doing. They had 5 Ioniq BEVs in stock (along with several plugin hybrid Ioniqs). Apparently those are not selling so well, despite some great prices. People would have rather get the longer range Kona BEV. Waiting list time for that right now is 8 months!

Ordered my preferred in ceramic blue/white in December. Just got a call saying Hyundai's done building the 2020s and I was offered the 2021 for the same price.

Only problem is they got rid of the ceramic blue .

  5. My only advice is make sure you get the price in writing and that they also agree in writing not to increase in context to any potential future Hyundai Canada increases.
My dealer tried to tack on the $1000 price increase at delivery after my 7 month wait, it wasn't until I exchanged some heated language that they eventually relented. Ultimately, they knew they had me after the long wait and I was unlikely to walk away. If they had not relented I would have gone ahead with the deal and then sued them for the difference in small claims for contractual breech. I am fairly certain I would have prevailed( it helps my brother in law is a crown prosecutor :) ) and they sure as heck would have paid their lawyer more than a $1000 to sort this.

Good points and thanks for the heads up. I got them to send the information via email and yes, they said the price was higher initially. Once I pushed back they got it straightened out and sent the right price on a contract. I also used the unhaggle price to get it down initially.

Many of the dealerships are claiming no payments for 6 months and 0% on all vehicles but say that doesn't apply to the kona ev.

I get they aren't making much money on it but yeesh, get your act together.

  8. What are they replacing it with? The yellow one?

  9. I placed my order for a 2020 Ultimate Kona EV at the Fredericton NB Hyundai dealer in late November 2019. ETA was May 2020. Then Covid-19 hit and the dealership laid off all the staff. I contacted them in April and again in June after reopening, and they estimated July delivery. Today I was in to get an oil change on my current Elantra GT and talked to the salesman. He actually had just got a new date for me (outside of their computer estimate system) of November 2020.

He was quite apologetic about the delay, and since this would be the first Kona Ultimate the dealership would have sold (they only have sold 2 Preferred Kona EVs before this), he's been pushing. At least he's on the case, and keeping me updated, I guess its just too bad our lack of tax incentives here has made the BC and PQ EV markets much stronger. He did reiterate my cost wont change, even with more mileage on my trade-in, so thats good, and offered to work out a good price for winter tires and rims when it does arrive, which will be needed at that point.......

I guess I'll have to keep getting my EV fix by lurking in the forums for another few months! At this point I've probably read every thread. Thanks for all the info, all.

  10. Update on the above: called the dealer in mid-June, the guy I had been dealing with didn't work there anymore and their general sales manager told me my car was scheduled for construction in August. I'm not sure what the previous guy was hoping to accomplish stringing me along like that...

After that I started looking at other dealers in my province and found my exact model on a lot in Coquitlam after one of their customers cancelled. One 490 km road trip later, and here it is! I even managed to get the Scrap-It BC rebate as well.

  11. Excellent choice and congratulations on clearing a bunch of hurdles along the way.:)
Hopefully just a misunderstanding at your local dealer and any service will be provided in a more professional manor.

I received my kona almost a month ago, the driving is just fabulous. Here is a photo of my spouse with the car! Bought at Hyundai Val-bélair QC 109446773_3374420915930864_3280579496842801276_n.jpg

  14. How long did you wait?

They replaced it with a skylake silver. However my employer told me I won't need to commute in until at least next year so I had to pass as it made no sense to have it depreciate and sit in the driveway. It's a sad day but it's the smart call.

In case anyone is looking for a Silver Preferred 2021, Kitchener Hyundai may have one available soon.

  16. Had my Kona in today for service. They had lots of Konas on the lot available for sale! So, if you are on Vancouver Island and in the market for an electric, Duncan Hyundai is the place to go.

Interesting, here in Southern California, a car is more of a must have. Yes, some get away with no car, but most people need one just to do daily errands like grocery shopping, etc. So, waiting until you need to commute wouldn't make sense here.

Just called my dealer that my wife and I placed the deposit for about 6 weeks ago

I wanted to remove the deposit and go for something that would be available sooner (either Model3/Y or a Kona EV at a dealer that was 300KM away)

Manager calls me saying "HEY WAIT UP WE GOT AN EMAIL YESTERDAY, YOUR KONA IS HERE END OF AUGUST, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DELIVER FOR MID SEPTEMBER"

So obviously we're happy because the Kona has always been our first choice but the delay was a bit long. Anyone else all of a sudden get their order processed ? Unless he's giving me the run around ? He said something about all of a sudden getting all the cars he needed deivered. I doubt they would have a year of EV orders produced that fast no ?

Anyways I'll keep you guys in the loop

Generally if you are willing to walk away, they will end up giving you a better deal and/or get it faster for you, even though it is "impossible".
