This is a very scary photograph and I apologize to those awaiting their MINI Cooper SEs for contributing to their anxiety. Over a year ago the MV Golden Ray capsized just off the port of Brunswick, Georgia, before it could deliver the cars in its hold. This ill-fated ship didn't appear to be carrying MINI Coopers, thank goodness (and MINI Cooper SEs didn't start shipping until this year). A Coast Guard spokesman said, "We estimate that it will be the largest wreck removal in terms of cost in U.S. history." The shipper's insurance company paid to bring in an amazing, giant catamaran/crane ship that used chains to cut the MV Golden Ray into pieces and load each piece onto a barge to be hauled away for dismantling and recycling. The fascinating story with videos and more photos is on jalopnik.com.

@Tommy Electric, your car looks just like the one YouTuber Chris Vanderstock was driving around in Australia. Did you loan him your car or is the country already blessed with two identical MINI Electrics? (I won't venture the third possibility to avoid a potential violation of confidentiality.)

Same state, same colour, different car. :)

I've been looking intently for other SEs on the road but I haven't seen any (except the test drive car I borrowed from the dealership). According to the dealer at Mini Garage in Melbourne, they've only delivered around seven cars this year in my state so they still seem to be pretty rare. This must be one of the mystical seven.

I saw that story when looking for pics of how big cargo ships are to show a friend. Broke my heart to see.

Alas it seems my car did not make it on any ship last week so I'm still in Southampton

The average UK port delay is 15 days - hopefully yours will ship soon!

Yeah that kind of depresses me. Means zero chance of a tax write off this year. It will hit US soil around the 25-28th then. I having to wait a full year for that $7500.

That is no fun on the tax wait. Sorry for the timing.

Truly that's the only thing bugging me. I might see if they are willing to write up the sale before delivery.

Not entirely true. If you adjust your withholdings appropriately, you can effectively get it in payments throughout the year. Just re-file your W-4.

I fully admit I am dyslexic and never do my own taxes. Not to say I'm horrible or stupid, I just flip numbers and don't want to risk that so I never do them. So you are kinda speaking a foreign language to me. I do know we finally got ours to balance so owed or owing is super close to zero on all levels. I'm not sure my partner would want to change that.

It would be maybe easier to close the sale prior to delivery.

That's fair enough. And I have a good friend who is dyslexic. He also happens to be one of the most brilliant people I know, so I appreciate that the condition has nothing to do with intelligence.

I appreciate hearing that truly. With spell check and lots of practice reading I hide it well. I do sometimes misread or leave our words though. But numbers... no hiding that. No warnings to correct things. I cannot do simple math even in my head though I can figure out algebra and calculus just fine. It's strange to explain. Simple math like taxes is better left to those who aren't me for sure lol

If the car could make it on a boat this week I still have a shot. We'll cross that bridge later this month though. I will be pushing for info to see financially what the best option is. The joys of car buying lol

Last I heard from the dealer, my car had a build week of week 5, 2021. I just got an email this evening stating that the car will be arriving at port in NJ on 12/19/20! I guess it has been built! I was expecting some updates along the way. How is everyone else getting these intermediate statuses?

Jealous. My car is still in Southampton per the site. I planned to call Monday to see if they had a clue. At this rate it won't get on a ship to make it before end of year.

I can see status here https://mygarage.miniusa.com/

I created an account but they are asking for a 7-digit production number to link to my car. I don’t have a numeric code, should I have one from the dealer? I have an alphanumeric code but the website won’t accept it.

I guess I had assumed that your dealers were proactively providing this info to you. Silly me!

You should be able to get the production code or VIN (since it's been built) from your sales advisor. I got the numeric production code for my SE from mine, and when I entered it into the My Garage site it showed me the VIN.

My dealer gave me the production code that I added in. The VIN (alphanumeric) should give you info (get it from your dealer) if you call ASK-MINI (866-275-6464), but at this point your dealer has the next step for you. I have been watching shipping schedules and I actually had hoped to be on the same ship your car is on. Not many ships the 2nd half of this month

Your dealer has failed you. You have been denied the joy of refreshing the My Garage page over and over, hour after hour, day after day, hoping for something to change and wondering which port the graph is referring to.

That's essentially been my life so far. Very excited for my order, but the lack of patience is killer!
