I am very curious what this new legislation will mean for the MINI already existing orders from customers within the UK, the Netherlands and other European countries. We wait an average of 265 to 290 days for our new MINI. The long waiting times are due to the situation in the world, we are told by MINI..... but apparently not in the USA ;)? From ordering the car in the USA to delivery, it takes about 72 to 75 days on average. That is quite a big difference. So, why global issue statements? Anyway, it is what it is and what can I do about it. It is becoming a frustrating adventure and sometimes quite painful to read. For USA customers it is of course great and in the current situation actually also good. Depending on how this new legislation will turn out of course. Also, yesterday late in the afternoon (just before closing time ) I got an update from the MINI dealer that our MINI is suddenly delayed at least 5 weeks. The MINI will probably be built in November (week 45/46) instead of being delivered in week 40. I also had to take into account that the construction might start at the end of December or the beginning of January (week 2 2023). I then asked if this had to do with the new legislation that is about to be signed in the USA but that was just a coincidence. Yeah right, of course! I don't believe what MINI is saying anymore after all the fuss lately. Our MINI was ordered mid February and was supposed to be delivered in June/July. It turned out to be August and then October (week 40). As of yesterday, it is now week 45 but will probably be week 2 2023. Or week 3, you don't know And then we are not even talking about changing the option packages and standard options. Where will it end? No idea.

But hey, what can we do about it. The powerful people in Munich decide. It's becoming a crazy story for us though.

Check out this thread about the tax-credit effect of the Inflation Reduction Act. It doesn't address non-US orders for the SE, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a flurry of US orders when the reality of the IRA became clear. Filling those orders might be responsible for delaying SEs going to other markets.

We are spoiled brats here in the US... not going to refute that argument.

I did see on the Brit's posts that your Mini's literally take forever to be delivered comparatively. My primary speculation (other than that US customers are favorably catered) is that swapping between BEV and ICE, and then Left and Right hand drive takes a minute to reconfigure the factory line; so BMW must be prioritizing high volume order batches before switching up the factory queue.

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. A bit lost in translation so to speak. You say it in a way in Dutch and in your mind you think it is also correct in English. Again sorry. I try to do my best. It's not your fault that you are lucky with the delivery times.

I once visited VDL in Born (NL) where Countryman's S and SE and the BMW X1 were built interchangeably. Left or right hand drive was no problem either. You now also see the BMW i7 and the normal 7 series being built side by side. Also right and left hand drive. I don't know if it is the same in Oxford.

Also, I have tried to read the new environmental legislation but it is really very difficult. No wonder there is a lot of doubt about what will happen next.

Oxford Mini builds several models on the same line continuously, like most auto manufacturers. For example, Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant builds Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator/F-250 Super Duty trucks all on the same line.

In today's supply chain world, it's not uncommon unfortunately.

There were 10 ro-ros in Zeebrugge yesterday. Just crazy.

My car is on Orion Highway headed there and scheduled to dock tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

  10. Weird.. my car spent roughly a month at sea sailing from the UK - panama canal - Southern California. And after 18 days sitting in California getting a sun tan it finally left for Utah. Sometimes I think the supply chain issues are all here versus around the world...

I feel bad for you guys Niet1. It doesn't make sense that we get delivery so much faster yet the cars are produced pretty close in your region. That doesn't make sense to me. I put in an order in May and it will probably be here tomorrow or Saturday. I think the new law that goes into effect will sadly hurt sales here.. not many people are going to shrug off $7500 for an EV and on top of it a Chinese version with some heavy tariffs. I wouldn't be too happy being a USA Mini dealership knowing that. I think the main market now for BMW will be China/Asia for the Mini Cooper. Anyway.. hopefully supply chain/chip issues get fixed or get better and shipping times improve on your side.

  11. I was getting excited when I went from "At The Port" to "In Transit" on the 10th. Today I finally called to find out that it's on the Orion Highway. Turns out the ship went Northeast to Bremerhaven and now it's back in Zeebrugge...250 Miles further away from me than when it started:-( Looks like it's Sparrow's Point and then Baltimore on the 29th. Looks like the spreadsheet pick up calculator is spot on!

Still, 120 days isn't worth complaining about when you see some of the other waits in this thread.

I would like to tour a car manufacturing plant someday; watching it on youtube just isn't the same.

Hopefully it doesn't tank sales too much... I'd still like to have a product that can and will be serviced locally. Shipping my car to Uncle Rich (EV Garage) for major stuff might get pricey.

we did the Oxford Plant tour in 2016. Actually our time slot turned out to be the best as it was only my wife and I on the tour…. Tour guide actually showed us a bit more as we went through the various lines quickly.

Updated the spreadsheet. My order just arrived "At the Port" from the factory, waiting for a boat. I'm in New England, so I imagine it's going to the New York port?

Either way, still not entirely sure if we're making the purchase if it doesn't qualify for the tax credits :(

  17. Just want to thank the makers of the spreadsheet. :)That's really cool to watch and document your car from start to finish. Finally drove mine home from the dealership and :eek:HOLY COW.. that regenerative braking is something else! I never got to test drive it but wow that was an eye opener...and how FAST it is! Sheesh.. Pretty cool - just wanted to say thanks for making that spreadsheet!

Thanks go to @F14Scott. It was a great idea to provide forum members with a way to compare the delivery times for this car that takes so long to get. It doesn't get the car here quicker, but it lets anxious owners-to-be know they're not alone during their agonizing wait.

That "I'm not alone" thing was the entirely selfish reason I made the spreadsheet. It's been a great joy to me, since then, seeing the journey it has taken with other new SE owners. And, as I predicted, many Excel gurus better than me have improved it way, way beyond my little 10x20 table. Thanks and cheers to us all!

Today, I went to the dealer where my BMW is being maintained. They are going to fix some small dents and other irritating things. It is not the dealer where the Mini was ordered. During a pleasant chat with the salesman, I was told that they have just informed their customers who ordered a Mini electric with the premium + package that their Mini will no longer be delivered this year. This concerns the Dutch Mini's. There are problems with panoramic sunroofs. I hope that Mini/BMW garage where the mini was ordered, has other agreements with the Mini factory oh dear ......it will be wishful thinking I'm afraid. I know there are worse things but this is starting to get pretty annoying. We have been waiting 200 days for our mini and it keeps getting delayed. I have emailed my Mini garage about our Mini and I am waiting to hear if there will be another delay. Hopefully I will hear it tomorrow.

Will it happen soon that someone who orders an Oxford SE is told they're instead getting a Great Wall Motor SE?

Looks like my MINI has finally made it on a train. Shipping to Texas, does anyone know how best to track the voyage?
