Maybe we could add a portion to one of the pinned threads. To me it's fun to guess what ship one could be on but calling is easier.

Since I obsessed over this while I was waiting for mine, I can attempt to put together an abridged how-to this weekend.

If I were to write it, think main point above others I read was that K-line and Wallenius Wilhelmsen are not the only ones to follow. WW is easiest to see the schedule though. Both K-line and Höegh require pdf downloads. Also that In Transit is not close to real time. It took 2 days to catch up on my garage. 866-ASK-MINI (866-275-6464) is the only guarantee to find your boat name. WW does not allow for VIN search like old sites stated. Höegh Autoliner does. K-Line has not yet.

    Are both good trackers

I think the process is somewhat similar to old but slightly changed. Supposedly due to covid, port stays are increased. Brexit will hose things in the future too I bet.

For now I am watching my ship going to dock in Santander, España

@Lainey nailed the key points of what I learned--especially that the best way to find out which boat your MINI is on is to ask. :D

Not to say it isn't fun trying to guess what your boat is on. In my case, I never would have had it right because I had no idea about Höegh Autoliner LOL

As it were my car has left Spain and is making the slow crawl out of Bay of Biscay and eventually on its way across the Atlantic directly to Baltimore now.

I guess time will tell if the Mini supply chain is impacted/disrupted by the latest virus strain and subsequent closure of the Port of Dover. Of course, my primary concern is the health and well-being of the UK citizens.

They are dealing with a surge as many places are. The newer strands (this one is about 3 months old) have been more virulent. Port of Dover is for France. Cars ship out of Southampton. Do you know of anything that comes through Dover? I do hope all are safe and that the vaccine is swift in deployment where they need it.

Good to know, however, I was thinking more along the line of parts needed for building the Mini, which potentially could come through there.

I admit I truly do not know where the parts come from and where they go through in terms of ports or even methods.

So I’ve been obsessively checking the status of my car since I got the VIN and I’m a little confused. I found out the ship it was on, and it was destined for the port of NY. The ship arrived in Halifax on 12/21 and NY on 12/23. The website said it was “at the port” on 12/21. So which source is in error? Or did my poor car get off at the wrong port?

It goes back to at port then in transit... could it have gone off at Halifax? They aren't great about being exact on days too. Call ASK MINI when in doubt

Since my special-ordered Electric Revolite wheels came from Germany, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of MINI parts go from there to the Oxford plant. Especially considering the SE has a number of BMW i3 internals. Also, the new shifter is BMW-style.

I was meaning which ports of exit and entry more than anything. Would it be affected by that port closure or do they go elsewhere? Are they delivered by other means? I honestly have not tracked that.

Been to busy watching the Höegh Traveller crawl across the ocean this week ;)

I always assumed by truck through the Channel Tunnel, for that just-in-time inventory management. But I'm speculating, and who knows now that the UK is out of the EU...

I assumed truck myself, but clearly that's a guess. I'm not enough of an anglophile or world business trade follower to understand exactly what changed with Brexit especially with the transition period or now that the deal is done.

Ship just docked and almost instantly after my status went to port again. That's interesting how fast that can happen and yet in transit from port took almost 2 days from Southampton

My car remains "at the port". It has been flagged that way since the ship hit to docks on Halifax (not NY) on 12/21. I haven't yet gotten a chance to call ASK MINI.

With the two holidays (Christmas and New Years), my car will be there for a while I'm sure. I will be dragging down the average time at port.

Does your still say 8.8? Mine magically changed today to 6.5"

I just checked again. Suddenly it changed to 6.5”, and In Transit. The changes happened within the last hour. Bummer, I half hoped they messed up the build in my favor. I suspected it was a reporting error though.
