That's the childproof lock, which has been on cars for awhile. Of course you wouldn't know if you never had to use them. Someone probably tried them or played around with them at the dealer. They probably never check for this.
I've never seen one inside of the rear doors themselves. My last car is a 2005 Accord that I bought new What's this feature for? Kidnapping people?
It’s to keep small children from opening the rear doors from inside the car. It’s a pretty standard feature on most cars these days.
Those are safety switches. We have a child with autism. Without that feature which prevents her from opening the door she'd open it and run out into traffic. Every car I've owned in the past 30 years has had them.
Regarding #3: Actually, you don't need to wait that long at all. You just have to wait until the Honda logo disappears which only takes about 5 seconds or so.
