Looks like quite a bit of effort to install. I would like to find a Rear Cross Traffic Alert System without all the other stuff. Hopefully one that would put a small speaker in the trunk or mounted just behind the rear seat.

Interesting re the BSS1LPB. Johngalts6146's system looks amazing, and since it feeds info to the driver gives the best outcomes, but something easier to install would be nice. I note that there is also a BSS1 (not LPB) which can be used in cars without a metal bumper; requires installing sensors inside. This would only be worth the extra effort if it gave a better detection pattern (which it might).

Interesting in that it not only does radar rear cross traffic while in reverse, but also does "vehicles approaching from left or right, in your blind spot, moving faster than you, if your speed is over 20MPH". Not sure if this would be helpful or annoying, but easy to disable.

Can't find many reviews of either.

Looks like there is just the license plate version, you would only get sound and not the light indicators. But it seems simpler to install.

Where did you find just the rear cross traffic alert? I can't seem to find one.

Looks like both the BSS1 and BSS1LPB do three things.
1- When a car is in your blind spot on that side, you are moving faster than 20 mph, and it is moving faster than you: LEDs that illuminate on that side.
2- The same as above, but if your turn signal is also on in that direction: LED will be blinking and there will be a buzzer.
3- When in reverse, when there is cross traffic in from that side.: LED blinking on one side or the other, no buzzer. [Edit: The BSS1 installation guide says just a flashing LED, specifically says NO buzzer. The BSS1LPB installation sguide says flashing AND a buzzer].

If you want only a rear cross traffic alert (3):

By not connecting it to the turn signals, (2) would not be active. If you didn't want to see (1) all the time, you could mount the LEDs near the back window, so you'd only see them when turned around to back up (if you do that). Would also be relatively easier to wire, as you wouldn't need to get the lights up to the front A pillars. You would need to find a 12V power source though in the back somewhere. A third option if you want a buzzer alert would be to modify the device (e.g. switch the LEDs into a buzzer, depending on your electronics savvy.)[Or do the BSS1LPB, which per instructions has a buzzer in this situation].

All this from the installation manual.....YMMV. I may try it though, I like both rear cross traffic and the blind spot alert (and I don't like the R camera taking over the display monitor for R turns, so I'd be happy to turn this off if there was another blind spot option.

If there is rear cross traffic detection radar integrated with the rear camera image, arrows or the like, in the 2019 or 2020 (and hopefully other cool stuff too), I may just upgrade. But buying a new car every 2 or three years makes little sense, where does it end?

The Bss1LPB according to the company has updated software to better provide Cross Traffic Alerts and will also be easier to install -----

Does the Clarity have metal bumpers? Has anyone installed one of these and how is it working out?

Can the Accord blind spot indicators or other Honda accessories work for the Clarity? This is something (that and the missing sunroof) that make the car just less than perfect for my wife.

The BSS1-LPB model above clips on the license plate so metal bumpers (or not) are not an issue.

I have one, uninstalled, in my garage. Hope to dummy it up this weekend to see if it works acceptably this (before doing all the wire hiding/panel work). I’ll let you know and post pictures of at least the RCTA detection pattern.

I will be interested to hear what you have to say about it----if positive I think I will be ordering it for my car---

    Since you ask, prelim report:

I dummied it up (resting it on rear bumper, applying power, and also connecting wires to simulate the reverse or turn signals being on). Then I parked just past an intersection to let it sense cross- or blind-spot traffic, depending on how the other cars approached.

Based on this prelim, it is good enough for me to go ahead and install. The blind spot detection seemed pretty good. I’m not sure how well it will work with the GPS active (designed to suppress blind-spot warnings below a certian speed). Rear cross traffic alerting was OK but—a big disappointment—did not react to pedestrians, only to vehicles. Also, since the license plate of the Clarity is not purely vertical, might need some shims to have it point along the road instead of slightly up in the air.

I’m planning on doing a full install this week/weekend and will let you know how it actually performs. Not quite sure yet how to get the wires coming from front of car (LED, buzzer, power) probably pushed in along the headliner, to go down past the back seat and into the trunk. Lots of pillars and options there. Hopefully the best route will be clear once the trunk liner panels are out.

Just wondered if you had the chance to do the install and your thoughts on how that went and any comments on if it's working to your satisfaction-----

Actually, just worked on it yesterday. Ran all conductors fore and aft through the cabin under the door sills (very easy). Also ran a wire to bring ACC power to the trunk, and a cable for a rear camera. (The front camera part of the system slowed me down a bit, running the wires around the headliner BUT behind the A pillar airbag. Nothing to do with the BSS1-LPB).

So no results yet, as I still have to make connections in the driver’s footwell to the ACC power and 12V fixed power (this second for the camera’s parking mode). And the connections in the trunk.

Have learned a lot, will pass it on. The Service Express guides are key, will share them. It’s not that complicated having done it once, but lots of pondering before that. I am handy, but have never done any car work of any sort before to give you a measure.

Once up and running I will also of course share the most important piece: does it work? as well.

Based on what you have put together you seem pretty darn knowledgeable to me----what are the Service Express guides? have not heard that terminology before---
Thanks for all your help---hope it all works well for you as I am very interested in getting the RCTA system installed in our Clarity----

The Service Express guides are from Honda’s online document database for repairs. First mentioned here by anthonyw I believe.

    https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/logon.aspx

It costs $10 a day during which you can download or print guides. I’ll share my set for these when I write it up, but for example, see attached.

Absolutely! That is the only thing I sorely miss from my old 2014 Mazda 6 I just traded in for my new Clarity. It gave me some nights of buyer's remorse thinking all the times that saved me from fender-benders. No idea why did not include that in the Touring, I would had gladly paid for the difference.

My dad and I were in the dealership to install the Clarity Sensors and we asked them Is it fully integrated to the back up camera? They said it is fully integrated to the back up camera and it was $190 to install
