Casting my mind back: has there ever been confirmation that the 2024 SE is related to the Ora Good Cat? Beyond simply being produced by a joint venture of Great Wall Motors and MINI/BMW, that is.
BMW has said nothing about how much of the 2024 SE will be feline. However, I assume the main reason to move production to China despite incurring stiffer import tariffs is to reduce the cost of manufacturing. A lot.
Some rumors, but have seen no confirmation: http://www.motoringfile.com/2021/09/13/ora-kat-the-basis-of-the-next-generation-electric-mini/
Thanks, I'd forgotten that article. Seems like even the authors of it hedged their bets a little: 2023: All-Electric small MINI (potentially based on the same platform as the Ora Kat) A dedicated cyber-sleuth could compare the wheelbase of the Ora to that of the new SE, to see if they matched. I'm too lazy to do that myself, though.
I believe Oliver Heilman said the 2024 SE will be shorter than current F56. Because the the 167" Ora Good Cat is longer than the 152" F56, I expect the wheelbase of the 2024 SE will be shorter than that of the Ora Good Cat, but that's just a guess. The same platform can be re-sized for different wheelbases.
...as is reportedly being done to produce the 2024 ICE version. It does raise the question, though: where does "based on" end and simply "developed in conjunction with" begin?
As Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart said when asked how he characterized pornography, "I know it when I see it." Justice Stewart would probably look at the way the body is put together, the location of components, the battery pack, the suspension, the steering gear, the cooling system, "transmission" and maybe the motor (or at least its mounting points) to characterize an EV platform.
