Hi Bernie, I reserved morning of June 1 with email confirmation from Hyundai in the afternoon. Agree that BC likely to be first regardless. Also, FYI, my brother just put an order in for a Tesla Y and the wait times for delivery is six months. So I am definitely just going to stick with my order — just hoping that my 2008 Highlander makes it through another winter :(

No answer from them. I hope the car is better than the service...

Closest is a 10 hour drive and the furthest a 39 hour drive which practically means air fair on top of MSRP+. I will have to wait and see what Hyundai position is on NC being in the mix or not. Good luck with the iD4. As crazy as things are you could probably sell it for more than you bought it for.

Well NC has been ditched. Florida would be my closest option. How is the iD4 going?

If you are close to Montreal, there's an EV Car show at the Olympic Stadium this weekend (Sept. 17, 18 and 19). Hyundai is there, so I should be able to see the Ioniq 5. I read that they can let you drive the car inside the stadium to do a "road test". I'll take some photos.

New to the forum, so bear with me on this post.
Pre-ordered a Ioniq5 AWD Ulitmate in Lucid Blue. I talked to the sale manager where my vehicle will we shipped to, so that I could confirm that my deposit would still be refundable after the car arrives. I was assured that if I am not satisfied or have concerns with the vehicle after a test drive.(I will insist on a 24 hour test drive), that my refund is fully refundable,as they will just put it into inventory.

Like others I am concerned about the lack of a rear wiper. Saw a You tube video done my a current model Ioniq owner who was charging his vehicle outside Hyundai Canada's headquarters. There was a IONIQ5 at one of the chargers so he decided to video tape it. The first thing I noticed was just how dirty the back window was after a rain fall. Not sure why they didn't have a top mounted wiper, so that it would be hidden away behind the spoiler when not in use.

Before the vehicle gets here, I have been doing some research on different paint treatments. A cermaic coating seems to be the best option, especially if they also also offer the glass treatment. I am in the Vanouver lower mainland order, so have been checking different Ceramic coating specialists. Depending on the package you chose, the glass can get up to 8 coats of cermaic glass treatment. The water will definetly bead, but will the amount of air flowing over the window be enough to clear it. Will be paying a visit soon.

The only other concern is the lack of the ability to put down the rear seats from the back of the cargo area. Not a deal breaker that the lack of rear wiper poses. More of an annoyance than anything. If the rest of the vehicle checks out OK, might consider leasing and at the end of the lease, if they have th wiper omission corrected, then buy the permanent IONIQ5.

  16. I'm a bit taken aback by two things you mentioned. That you believe there will be an opportunity for a test drive and that your dealer says you can get a refund after delivery. The first seems to fall somewhere between unlikely and impossible and the second contradicts the guidelines for refunds (though I guess a dealer could choose to override the refund policy).

Actually from what I've read about the deposit, it only gets you a first chance at purchasing. The dealer can charge you whatever the hell they want so...this is NOT like a Tesla or even an ID.4 deposit.

  18. Oh ya. A deposit really just means that at some point Hyundai might build a car to your preferred specs and ship it to Canada. Everything else is totally up in the air.

The key word is "might" and they make crystal clear they are obligated to nothing and neither are you. I wouldn't doubt to hear it being sold out from underneath "insiders" while at the dealership if the first thing isn't ink on paper. Right now the only one more anxious the get a hold of the IONIQ 5 than reservation holders are the dealers that will fleece who ever buy's it. Met a SantaCruz owner that "ordered" one and he paid so much over MSRP he couldn't bring himself to say it but admitted it wasn't as high as 4K he realizes they are getting for other Santa...models. Christmas came early; for the dealers and IONIQ 5 may show up in time for the festivities.

Two things would kill any deal. providing that the MSRP is within the range I would be willing to pay, is trying to sell above MSRP and/or no test drive. Then again the lack of a rear wiper plays a big role in my decision.

  21. Oh, I agree with you completely on all counts. I just think if you feel that way the deal is already/inevitably broken.:)

I’m thinking ceramic coating on the rear screen would bead the water to avoid the dirt build up and keep it clear.

No, not already broken, as I have been doing research into ceramic coating that is specifically made for windows. Watched some Youtube videos, for starters, and there is a definite difference in windows that have been treated with the ceramic coating for windows, versus ceramic coating for the body, and DIY with over the counter ceramic coating. There was one video, sorry can't remember the site it was on, where they used all three. And the beading and run off on the front window was quite exceptional on the front windscreen. On a side note, it was noted by one of comments that the one of the properties of the cermic coating would not allow dust to stick to the window.
The next step is to go and talk to some ceramic coating specialists and get their opionion on rear windows. Will show them a video of the rear view of the IONIQ5 showing the spoiler and if they think there would be enough downforce to have the beads run down the window quicker.

So yes the lack of a rear window wiper just leads me into being even more cautious in my decision.
