Problem is that my wife needs about 120 mile usable range. About once a month, she visits a girlfriend who lives 56 miles from our home. She usually goes there about 10 am (getting there at 11 am as the drive takes about an hour). She needs to be back before 2:50 PM to pick up the kids from school. So, with enough fuel or charge, she can stay with her friend just over 2 hours before she has to drive back to pick up the kids. Traffic greatly varies and it can take up to 1.5 hours if the traffic isn't too good. She usually drives 75 mph on the highway, reducing the range of the car. She doesn't want to recharge for 40 minutes before driving back as she will cut the time she can spend with her friend significantly. She needs a car that can get her there and back without having to re-charge.

The only BEV's that can drive that range that could be bought for under $20k are the Bolt or the 2018 Leaf. Can't think of any other EV that can go that distance on a charge close to that price range.

The wife only drives about 5k to 7k miles per year, so spending big $ is not worth the investment as it takes way too long for the BEV to pay for itself.
