I feel bad for my Americans friend south of the border. Your EV rebate scheme with the recent IRA seems like a giant convoluted mess…
I need to remember to cancel my free trial with satellite tracking and detailed info before I get charged…I got tired of watching it sit off the coast of Ireland.
Been there. And then they contacted me about what they could do better to keep me. I told them how it was a one-time-per-ten-year tracking thing!
Probably won't help but I tried. Here is the response to the survey I just spent too much time answering.
Looks like Morning Cecilie isn't moving into position today. I wonder if it will sit all weekend without any cars offloading.
I find it hard to believe that the cargo shipping industry takes weekends off, letting ships take up space at the port, but I guess that could be a thing.
Anyone know anyone working for the IRS to answer this question - Do our refundable $250 deposits and signature-less sales agreement over emails count as "written binding contracts"? For some of us who'll have to make a decision in the next week or two, it'd be really helpful. I can't believe I kind of wish the car would be stuck in whatever stage next longer just so that I'd get some answers before the dealer tells me my car is here...
I think for me, I simply would like to know before I had to make a final decision. I might purchase it anyway. But it helps me find some peace so that I can just focus on loving the car. Now we all can't stop wondering, when we should be celebrating and driving the freaking car!!! What about you? If you passed on yours, which other EV would you get instead?
Man I totally get what you're saying. I'm very fortunate to be able to afford the car without the credit. I have a contract with a non-refundable $1000 deposit and the VIN, signed by both me and dealer on the 15th. So I pray that's good enough. But I'm in either way. We have a 2006 R53 so we're MINI people all the way. We ordered in February, but I couldn't take the waiting so I pulled the trigger on an Ioniq 5 we lucked into, before they became rare as unicorns with massive markups. Wife could take EV'S or leave them, (I don't get that) but loved the MINI SE that we drove. So this will technically be her car. If we didn't have the money for both, I'd have to pass on the SE and wait a year or longer for an Ioniq 5 without markup. That's the only other EV that really turns me on. The Tesla model Y turns me on styling wise, but there are too many turnoffs that kill the love for it.
If only it was that easy. If I worked for the IRS I wouldn't be able to give you an answer because my answer hasn't gone through the steps to make it official. To top it off, IRS employees are not allowed to give tax advice. This would probably be tax advice. You could ask the IRS for the answer by requesting a private letter ruling (PLR). But I think the cost is now more than the credit, and it would apply only to you. Meaning even if I could prove I had the exact same contract as you the IRS doesn't have to rely on it. You could consult your tax advisor. Probably will get the same answers you are getting in this thread since there is nothing concrete out there. Yes it sucks!
I wish I was proactive like you! Agh! I think you will be able to get the tax credit. I hope your wife and you enjoy driving it!
Not all dealers were willing to do anything. Mine at first said no because they can't advise on tax issues, but a day later did offer some paperwork. I hope it holds up because this is a messy year for us financially with closing out a parent's estate, so I'd hate to get audited and find out we did something wrong (wife is executor) either in probate or with this car.
Good luck. I'm in the same situation with my dad. It got me thinking how short health and life is and we should take opportunities when we can. Not to mention how this crazy world gets crazier by the day. I know it's just a car. But cars are one of the few things that i've enjoyed my entire life. Your life could change forever at any time. Seize the day.
Wow..so weird. Morning Cecilie moved overnight from Newark to Bayonne. She's at a place where cars unload, so hopefully our cars will be disembarking today! My Garage still says In Transit.
I'm so obsessed with this I feel like driving 2 hours just to see if I could get close and see that ship unloading. I can barely stand the suspense!
