I bought the XSE fully loaded at sticker after waiting almost a year. Longo Toyota, huge dealer in El Monte CA. My small local dealer now has 2 cars at 10k over sticker, I would not pay that much. That basically would negate the 10k in incentives, 7.5k in fed tax credit and $1000 or my 3500 CA state refund . As for red stitching, I wasn't a big fan when I read about it and saw photos. 3 months in with the car, it isn't even a factor and the fun of driving it outweighs any negatives. I never had expensive cars, and I keep cars a long time. I moved up from a 2001 V6 Camry, which has a way quieter and better ride than my wife's 2013 Honda Civic, so the Rav is even quieter for me, especially on battery. Very comfortable also. It only makes a lot of noise when I force a charge with the charge button, but I usually don't use it. As far as full electric and pricier cars, I haven't driven any, but unless it was a second car for commuting, I'm not ready to go full electric and hunt for charge stations on a long trip. In 10 years, it's projected to be mandated, only electric cars sold here, as you know as a CA resident. We'll also have many more safety and "self driving" features by then, of which the Prime has many. The features help, but the sensor on the wheel which monitors hands on keeps people honest if they think they can get lazy and stop paying attention to the road. I am loving adaptive cruise control and the HUD was well worth the upgrade for me. One con is it is problematic with polarized sunglasses and in some light conditions. No regrets, but I suggest interested people find an MSRP dealer, even if they have to travel a few hundred miles, and place an order for the next batch if that's doable. Don't pay that markup unless they just hit the lottery, it's similar to the thieving markup I faced for the standard hybrid in 2020. Glad I found out about the Prime back then, I love it.

  3. Sadly Toyota is not offering the RAV4 Prime here in WA state, despite WA state passing ZEV bill in March 2020. Talking my many dealerships here, some were skeptical if any would arrive at the lot for sale in 2021. The best thing I can do right now is drive down to Oregon which will be a huge hassle, and even they have a limited selection and usually charge above MSRP.

    Update

The Rav 4 Prime has been amazing. Usually always exceeding the rated 41 miles of electric. Especially in warmer weather.

During the cold (New York cold) it has kept its rated 41 miles most of the time. Except when my wife blasts the heat (she hates the cold) honestly love the car though. Only filled her up once since we bought it in September. From September 2020 to February 2021. Only 20 dollars in car gas bills. Insane. (Keep in mind my wife does a lot of local driving) Plus we have solar so that keeps cost down even more. Go electric everyone! Lol

I'm surprised I haven't seen any commentary on how the dealers who are charging well above MSRP are essentially stealing (for lack of a better word) the federal tax credits meant to incentivize adoption of this technology. When that is combined with Toyota's very limited distribution of these models I would think a case could be made for restraint of trade. Are there any lawyers out there who can speak to this? It's very disheartening to think that the tax credits will be expired by the time some of us can get one of these.

Is there any chance of this happening? As of June 2020, Toyota was still 72,407 cars away from the 200,000 limit. Only the RAV4 Prime and Prius Prime will count toward the limit. In the Prius Prime's best year (2018), 27,595 cars were sold. So, it's will be at least one year and probably more before Toyota hits their limit. If RAV4 Prime production can't be ramped up by then, then Toyota has messed up their manufacturing or decided to abandon the car.

Thieves. Local dealer wanted 5k over sticker in 2019 for a 2020 hybrid LTD. I waited almost a year for loaded XSE Prime and paid msrp, just about 40k after 11k worth of tax incentives in CA. I think restraint of trade would be a long shot, just a supply and demand issue here with so few manufactured. My local dealers want 10 over sticker for SE model Prime, about 6ok. Way too much, even for a car with a lot of advantages over similar pricy models.

10K mark-up over MSRP. Not for me. If that continues, I will be looking at the Ford Escape plug-in

Just talked to my local dealer, here in Michigan, and they don't think they are getting any Rav4P's this year. I have refundable deposits on the Rav4P Rivian R1S, and Ford 150 Lighting. First one that can get me one has my business. Really want the R1S:)

I am on a list at AutoNation Toyota in Houston, Gulf Freeway. The dealer said a person with a previous order had backed out so that order was available, but he did not know when it would arrive. Out in Riverside Calif. they are trying to get $13K over MSRP: see below
Vehicle: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE

    Stock Number: 00203163

    MSRP: $49,893

Your Toyota of Riverside selling price is only: $62,888
