Hi All, I am a new Clarity owner. Took the delivery of the Touring model yesterday. The dealer did not have anti-theft devices. He suggested using aftermarket services. Would anyone please suggest a good anti-theft device or GPS tracker. I live in Toronto. Thanks!!!
The HondaLink app does a pretty good tracking job. With the latest update it usually will show the vehicles location even when it is on the highway. geo
I also use just the Honda Link instead of paying for a GPS tracker or LoJack. I’ll add that I added the Honda puzzle locks to the wheels since it would be over $5,000 to replace all 4. The $32 puzzle locks are cheap insurance.
I noticed a red light blinking in my car after it's locked so I looked it up in the owners manual and it is the 'Immobilizer System Indicator / Security System Alarm Indicator'
Note, the original poster asked for a good GPS tracker - not cheap, not easy to install. So... TrackmateGPS , https://trackmategps.com/ , is popular with some owners of luxury cars. My suggestion would be to have the following professionally installed: https://www.amazon.com/TrackmateGPS-Tracker-Real-time-hard-wired-contract/dp/B00GA98XAE/ TrackmateGPS DASH 3G GPS Vehicle Tracker. Real-time, hard-wired. by TrackmateGPS Price: $79.99 For Canada operation, see: https://trackmategps.com/profile/Faq#item_3 This is not a free service. The plans cost between $9/month and $30/month (USD) (5mins vs 3 seconds updates). https://trackmategps.com/profile/Subscribe If this makes sense for someone's car, that is their decision. Imho, some cars are a target for thieves. Some cars are stolen to be stripped and sold for parts. Some are stolen for joy rides. Some are stolen to be sold/used. Trackmategps also makes mini trackers. But, those must be installed in the correct orientation and a place that is not covered by metal. For some cars, the front/rear bumpers may work. I hope the above helps.
Oops, I forgot to add a link to a so-so article: https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-gps-trackers Fwiw, I trust TrackmateGPS.
It’s a Honda part and available at any dealer or one line. Check local dealer price vs online with shipping. I hid the key part in a bag under front seat.
Just curious, has anyone ever heard of a stolen Clarity? Being such a limited-production car, there's not a big market for chop-shop Clarity parts like there is for other Honda cars. I wonder if the HV battery has value on the scrap market? Has anyone even lost their half-plastic wheels to thieves? At more than a grand apiece they're very expensive to replace so protection does sound like a good idea.
