So MINI thinks it's OK to delete features without telling buyers? MINI decided to omit the parking sensors only on cars where someone wasn't paying extra for a feature that requires parking sensors? My MINI Cooper experience is greatly enhanced by both the front and rear parking sensors. I love how they can detect parking blocks.

I really want to know if this MINI dealer has a list of all the features people expected but aren't getting because of the chip shortage. There were, apparently, just enough parking sensor chips (chips required for the parking-sensor system) for the people who ponied up for the park assist package. Shouldn't there be a price-adjustment for deleted features?

I couldn't google-up any news about the deletion of rear parking sensors that have been standard on MINI Coopers since 2018.

  3. I totally agree and think this should somehow be compensated for. It's ridiculous that they would remove a feature like this and not tell anyone when this is listed as a standard feature. I wouldn't take delivery without it, especially without any compensation, so the buyer has to be made aware of this change.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my signature does indeed have the sensors, wether that's luck or because they are a prerequisite for the additional package I ordered is unknown. I certainly wouldn't have noticed when I took delivery, so I dodged a bullet either way.

I don't really care about the parking sensors but it's frustrating that Mini thinks they can remove advertised features without telling me...
The switch where the park distance control is supposed to be is just black on my Signature.

  5. I may be wrong here, but just going off of what I’ve seen in videos, isn’t that switch for “parking assist” and not “park distance control?”

I think the owners manual only mentions that the switch controls front PDC and Parking Assistance. May not be there for rear PDC only, at least for 2022 models.

Rear PDC is automatically activated when R is engaged, doesn't seem to be anyway to disable it. You can disable automatic front PDC activation in one of the menus.

But I'd wait for someone else to jump in here that has a 2022 with rear PDC only (if they built any).

I am having this problem. My mini order since April keeps getting put. Ack to order received because of some item in shortage. This weeks dilemma is now no premium sound system amongst, moon roof shortage, and leather seats. My dealer has told me to either build without these items or put my build on hold for several months. Sigh.

Has anyone who didn't get the rear parking sensors heard from their dealer or MINI regarding what they are planning to do about it? Will they retrofit at a later time? Or will they provide some sort of price adjustment? Mine will probably be arriving in less than 3 weeks, and it would be good to know what others' experiences are if I'm also missing the sensors. Maybe I can get them to commit to something before making payment. What do you think would be a proper price adjustment for not having this feature?

This is correct for the 2020/21 models, so I would expect it to be the same for 2022 models.

  13. That sounds really frustrating. But I have to say that your dealer’s excuse doesn’t sound right to me. Like you, I opted for the sound system, moon roof, and leather seats, and my car went into “Quality Check” two days ago (meaning, I think, that it’s almost completely built). Also, I haven’t heard of any of those options being in short supply — just the computer chips.

  14. I won’t be satisfied with just a price discount. I really wanted those sensors. I’ve got a teenager who’s going to be learning to drive next year, and I was planning on having those back-up beeps to help her out. If the sensors are missing when my car comes in, I’ll definitely be asking for a retrofit. I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed in MINI right now. Do you suppose new BMW owners are being unpleasantly surprised by missing equipment, too?

Yes, they are... Bmw has been removing lumbar support and some power seat adjustment but has been providing some (small) monetary credit

For what it's worth, I heard the same thing about new orders from Mini of Portland when I picked up my car. They didn't mention a single thing about the missing parking sensors though...

This is my understanding, as well - 2022 manual starting on page 182. You won't have that button unless you pay for whatever package or trim includes Front PDC and Parking Assistant. My iconic trim has it.

I've lost track of what exactly Mini is now including on which trims for the optional stuff like PDC and LED lighting. When I checked the USA build site a few days ago, there was not much detail provided at all! It is disturbing if they are building cars without certain features (due to production supply shortages) and failing to notify the owners ahead of time.

  18. Hmm . . . perhaps that would explain why it took so long for my car to actually enter the production line.

Re-reading the owner's manual, it's clear that the switch is only there to turn off the front parking sensors which are optional.

However, Mini's build page does still say "Rearview Camera and Park Distance Control" under standard features for the Signature trim on the trim selection section so my car definitely should have had them.

I feel for you - sorry you're having this problem. Have you grabbed a screenshot of the web site? They might update it!

There's a screenshot already posted on the first page of this thread!

Fortunately for me, the parking distance control wasn't a feature I wanted, and if I had it I would have been more frustrated not being able to turn it off! (I find all the beeps and dings in new cars rather annoying)

It's just not a great first experience with a brand that they remove features I technically paid for without notice.

Now that I've discovered the missing parking sensors, I've been going through everything else looking for missing stuff.

Part of the standard features lists:
"Six speaker audio system with HD radio, Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM satellite radio with 12 month subscription"

Again, this is something I don't really want but am curious, where is the SiriusXM option in the radio? If I go to sources, my only options are FM, Bluetooth, and USB.

Interestingly, the full standard features list (button only visible on the desktop site, link here) does not list the parking distance control, only the backup camera.

In mid May, I was going back and forth on whether to special order or take one that the dealer previously ordered for the showroom that was already on the boat. The manager took me aside and suggested strongly to buy the one on the boat if it is close enough to the one I wanted. He offered to refund any deposit if I didn't like it. Thinking it was a sales ploy, I dismissed it, but I did make the deposit. In hindsight, they may have been aware of serious delays in production and the likelihood of disappointed customers. He was also saying Mini wasn't letting dealers order for stock, only for customers, he just couldn't get any cars in without manipulating the system.
