  1. We also do not get the roof rails and I think I have seen the option of memory adjustable seats.

Is it feasible to buy one in Canada and bring it into the U.S., or would that be crazy complicated?

I noted a similar situation with the Niro EV. Canadians get LED headlights with the top trim level. No more LED headlights for the U.S.

2022's ICE Konas are starting to show up on dealer lots in the U.S.

There are some new colors - so far I've seen Blue Wave and Fern Green. Looks like Ultra Black is a "continued" color.

  5. I suggest you start a separate thread on this. It's an interesting question with a lot of moving parts.

  6. Arriving at dealers? It's not even configurable on the website yet.

One might think the configurator would be up first, but the cars are starting to arrive, at least at some dealers. Again, these are Kona ICE 22's. Have not seen any Kona Electric 22's yet.

  9. Oh. I'd presumed you were referring to the EV.

Thought you were referring to the EV’s as well

  11. I've been wondering if the fact that the 2022 Kona EV doesn't seem to appear on the Canadian website means anything. It's on the US and other worldwide sites.

The U.S website says '22 EV's will be coming Spring 2021. Spring will be over in 5 weeks. Wonder if the claim about Spring arrivals is dated and needs to updated? Perhaps all the batteries needing to replaced on older cars is causing a shortage on batteries for new cars and delaying production?

  14. It is and it isn't on the U.S. site.

There is a page for the 2022 Kona EV. But clicking "Build & Price" goes to a list of models that doesn't include the 2022 EV. Clicking "Check Inventory" goes to a page with no 2022 Konas at all.

And clicking "Why Hyundai" - well, I've been asking myself that since my 12v battery first went dead a month after I bought the car.
They're being delivered in other countries. Maybe they are holding off on the U.S. 2022s until the inventory of 2021s and even 2020s is reduced. There are cash back offers.

  15. That is the case. A dealer tells me that several 2022 EVs were just assigned to them and are sitting at the U.S. port. All they can see in the system is the color, no other details or specs. The vehicles are on hold until the inventory of 2021's gets down to some level.

Makes a lot of sense. The inventory tab on Hyundai's website shows the dealers within 25 miles from me (I'm in New Jersey) have 165 Kona EV's (model year 2021) in stock. Seems like a MASSIVE supply, and hopefully they will be forced to offer massive incentives to clear them out.

I thought perhaps the reason for the massive supply might be related to the $5000 New Jersey EV incentive running out of funding, but I see some New York dealers appear to have substantial inventory positions too.

Wow, this is really confusing. Hyundai can't even keep the same model names between Australia and NZ! Bad enough they can't work out what year it currently is in the US, but as you can see from my avatar, the "smooth fronted, colour-matched panels, alloy wheel, bigger screen" version is now with me. It is known here as just https://www.hyundai.com/au/en/cars/suvs/kona/kona-electric The global variations are really something. I would have got the Highlander, but the front seats were just too uncomfortable. All that power-everything didn't leave any room for padding, apparently, so I went for the Elite (OP - no HUD in Elite, only in Highlander). Anything you want to know about this one?

  18. It would be most helpful if posters could add their location - at least the country - to their profile. It will show in all previous posts and provide needed context, especially since Hyundai varies their trim lines so much among countries.

Hover over your name at top, click Personal Details and enter Location.

    Edit:
I love the "Dive in Jeju" colour name. It's the same as my U.S. Ceramic Blue color, but from now on I'm using Dive in Jeju.

  19. My dealer says the $3,000 cash back - which expires June 1 - has succeeded in pushing a lot of 2021's out the door. Checking inventory on hyundai.com, there are many fewer 2021's than previously. So we might see the U.S. 2022's pretty soon.

Toolworker, a possible hint on the availability of HUD on the 2022 EV's is that it appears to no longer be available on any of the 2022 ICE trim levels in the United States. Bummer. Just like you, I want the HUD, the electric folding mirrors, the heat pump, and front parking sensors. As you said, dream on :)

And I want the Thunder Gray paint too :)

  21. I'm not seeing this any more. I thought I had seen a drop in inventory last month, but wasn't keeping track yet. In the last 9 days, the 2021 inventory of Ultimates within 150 miles has gone from 44 to 40 (71 of all trim levels). I see no new incentives, although the $3,000 on financing was extended. (A dealer said you could get it by taking out a loan and then paying it off after three months.)

The US version doesn't have front parking sensors? It's interesting to see the differences between countries. My new 2021 Kona EV Ultimate has the front parking sensors in Canada. I mean, that wasn't a selling feature for me (I've driven for 23+ years without them lol and 90% of the time avoid scraping the bottom of the front bumper on a curb and haven't actually hit anything in front of me lol) but it is a nice to have :)

I actually only went with the Ultimate trim because I got a great deal that pretty much made the price of the Ultimate the same as the price of the Preferred

I'm in Canada (and a province that will likely lag behind everyone for EV vehicles sales for a long time) and just signed the papers on my new 2021 Ultimate trim yesterday and I really only went with the Ultimate because I got a really good reduction on the price (before the federal incentive and before my low-balled trade in value) that made it less than the price they had on the Preferred model on the lot. But this is because I looked around online (there are 7 Hyundai dealers within like 30mins of me) and one dealer has a lot of stock and has big discounts on them so I negotiated my local dealer for that price rather than driving 20mins away to get the cheaper one. And my dealer did say they weren't selling as well right now as they had been.

It could be a combination of the recalls (but I think for anyone that understands the overheating and fire thing is a risk with any lithium ion battery if there is a defect in manufacturing (think samsung Note 7 and didn't Boeing have a few batter fire issues around the same time as Samsung?) it won't be a big factor because they understand the ones outside of that production timeframe should be fine) along with the fact that car sales may be down lately, but also many might be waiting to see the new EVs coming out this year first because there are a lot of them coming out this year to compete. I think the Kona will likely still be one of the better more affordable ones but we'll see :)
