  1. It would seem this just affects the folks with integral maps capability. No updates on the 7 inch system, Hyundai is not interested in "upgrading" the tight wads like me :)

  3. The version number on the MapnSoft page is 14.10, but the download isn't available from there. I don't see a version number on the Hyundai download page. Here are the detailed versions, FWIW:

My home screen is almost blank. I can swipe right to settings, and touch the right side to go to the map. Is there anything else?

How do you set the tile on the home screen? The online owners manual has instructions for editing home screen widgets for the old version (Type1) but not this new one (Type2).

That's all there is on the new Home screen. It cannot be changed. What a waste of space! This new interface is a big backward step.

I was just about to ask where to go for updates for people who didn’t go with the sat nav option. Am I correct in assuming there is no place to get just software/firmware updates?

  6. A recent post by Brantford, ON, Kia on Youtube is disccussing this crappy upgrade. Same software change on their models.

The dealer is soliciting feedback from its customers on the upgrade. So far, the loss of the 3 widget tiles from the home screen is being poorly received.

I second that, and wont be 'upgrading' soon. I contacted Hyundai Canada and the customer service rep told me to contact MapnSoft or my dealer, like my dealer is going to fix software. Nice way to schluff off an annoyed customer to avoid dealing with the complaint.

Late offering reply, it's a yes. I couldn't use my AA at one point, suddenly I can use Waze. AA option now only "requires" location when using the app. Before,it wanted access to the entire phone, I don't think it changed with the v.10 update. Google keeps wanting to "assist" me during zoom calls, smart devices are always listening.

hyundai blames HERE for mapping data, and MnSoft for navigation issues. The latter blames HERE. 2019 Kona electric has lost functionality with each update.I can't even bring up my "street view" map,or traffic indicator color anymore. I don't need to see the surrounding states as my MAIN view with some small active line indicating guidance.Navigation arrival to address, lost road side confirmation:left,or right.

UI is something hyundai can control because they're the HERE customer, and it owns MnSoft ,who is painful to deal with.

Can InsideEV approach hyundai, and ask for the functionality back on both kona electric variants?

  10. I'm getting ready to write a letter to the presidents of Hyundai North America and global. Nothing else seems to work.

Anyone have additions to these bullet points?

Features removed in this and earlier sofware updates:
    • Radio preset buttons are smaller, no longer display channel names, and were moved from the left of the screen to across the bottom.
    • The ability to reorder the preset buttons was removed (earlier update)
    • Substantial information was removed from the home screen, along with the ability to choose the three “widget” tiles.*
Features omitted that should have been in a "premium" system":
    • Automatically correcting for Daylight Savings
    • Displaying Android Auto and Apple Carplay using the full 10.25” screen.

  11. Toolworker:
Although I can't say through direct experience, as I don't want the update, 2 more items to add:

    - The "neon tube" radio channel numbers are much harder to view than the existing font, making someone stare more at the screen;
    - Permit navigation map data updates without requiring a software update. The 2 items are mutually exclusive in their use.

I thought this was just a map update and got the great surprise of whole UI changing and loosing some settings (radio presets and some driver setup options ) - luckily I had only had car for couple days so was easy to re-setup
But really agree the new UI while looking slightly better in some areas loses a lot on information/ functionality.
The main Home Screen seems almost all blank- and the non-descript map wouldn’t help me even in hometown - hoping they get better UI soon as seem like this has been out for little while ...

  14. I tried to avoid it, but the dealer installed it this morning as part of the 15000km service - after I asked them not to do it.

The home screen is basically useless - displaying the time and outside temperature only tells me things I can get from the top line or the instrument cluster.
The map on the right side is so dark, that in direct sunlight, it all but disappears - even with the brightness turned up.
When using the split screen function to try and get something like previous setup, it turns out that the smaller window on the right side of the screen is not a button to go into that function - just a display.

User interface is always important with any system, but especially in a busy environment like a car.
It doesn't need to look cute. It needs to be easily accessible, readable and helpful while you're busy controlling the car.
I'm furious with the dealer and Hyundai because:
    1. the dealer did what I asked them not to do
    2. Hyundai Australia tell me there is no way to roll back to the previous version.
    3. I have lost readability, speed of access and functionality - that I paid for.

I'm getting tired of the hassles of owning this car. Sure, it's been fun to drive and cheap to operate, but four recalls in under a year (and another one due in April or May) and the gradual removal of functionality that contributed to my buying decision in the first place... I think Hyundai have a lot of things to sort out before I look at another one.
    --- End Angry Rant ---
Any programmers here that reckon they could get into the firmware?

Can you see if if it's OSEV20.USA.SOP.V115.201030 or 201029 ?

  16. There's a thread full of similar comments, if you'd like to add to it.

  17. I think, being the Oz version, the numbers won't align:
    Model: OSAE.S5BLN.AAU
    Software: OS_E_20.AUS.S5W_L.001.001.201028
    Firmware: OS_E_20.AUS.08.201020.MICOM
    NAV APP: STD5W.AUS.HMC.201020.f2696ef_20RU
    Map: AUS.13.41.46.560.002

The UI matches your photos in the other thread.

I note that the weird bug involving the nearest charging station search still exists.
It still insists that the nearest charger is in North Sydney (no matter where I am) when I can see in the list that there are plenty of closer ones.
Does anyone else get that happening?

  18. Ok, the AVN decided to make a liar of me. After a second restart, this bug appears to be fixed. It now shows the nearest charging station correctly...

I love software, you never know when it might just do what you wanted.
What I can't see is the charging stations displayed on the map (yes, I did select them in the setup). Instead, it's decided that I need to see all the nearby churches and schools (I didn't select them - they're not even on the POI list).

I downloaded the source code from Mobis (it's Open Source). It'll take me a couple of months to read and understand it all (I'm getting old and slow). Maybe it can be debugged and a better UI developed. Even just fixing the color scheme would help.
For those who care, it seems that the kernel is Linux/Android. Just need to figure out the version and if the architecture for adding devices is the old way or the latest way.

  19. Thanks Toolworker, I think most of my concerns have already been posted. :D

  20. Just noting also that the update has messed up scheduled charging.
I have my EVSE set up on a controlled load (CL) circuit. The circuit goes live when the power company determines - usually around 23:00. It goes off again at around 07:00.
My charging is usually scheduled to start at 04:00 and to finish at 05:30.
Since the update, it starts as soon as the power company activates the CL circuit.
I am using the location feature, so I'll test it without that and see if it's still broken.
