Dead of winter here in New England, but already thinking of the warmer weather. The US-based Kona Electric Ultimate doesn't come with the ability to have a factory-installed roof rack or side rails. I'm looking for a way to carry a paddle board for a short distance from my home (1 mile) to the launch site. Any suggestions? I'm open to any "DIY hacks" that will allow me to avoid purchasing an expensive third-party roof rack system.
Here's the cheap solution. Takes an extra couple minutes to set up, and you'll have straps going across the inside of the cabin, but for your short trips it might be all you need. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Malone/MPG172.html
Thanks. I actually have a set similar to these that I used on my CRV's crossbars. In that situation, the straps were secured around the outside of the crossbars. My concern with running straps through the cabin is whether that will put undue pressure on the foam insulation around the windows, and eventually cause them to fail.
A fair concern. It's definitely not the best setup. If you plan to use it regularly, go ahead and get a proper yakima or Thule rack.
