Hey, everyone! I'm a newly minted EV enthusiast and I just want to know why you bought your first EV! I can start with myself: 1. I'm a climate change warrior 2. Cheaper cost of ownership 3. Less maintenance stress
For me back in 2012 it was the price of gas. An old GMC van where it was easier to measure liters/km than the reverse. The benefits to climate change and the environment was second. I also have grown to appreciate the quieter ride. Of course I won't mention the ability to leave that tailgater in the dust if required. BTW welcome to the forum
In order: BMW i3-REx -> 72 mi EV and 78 mi range extender (still own and backup car) Prius Prime -> 25 mi EV and 640 mi total range (traded in for next EV) Standard Range Plus Model 3 -> 240 mi EV (still own and backup car) My reasons not in any particular order: Half the cost per mile of a Prius which means 1/4th the cost of ordinary cars. Quiet and lack of vibration. Reaches speed limit first at every traffic light. Bob Wilson
1. Main reason is zero emissions. The rest is the icing on the cake. 2- EV’s are more fun to drive, the torque is amazing! 3- I love how quiet my Kona is. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I tend to be a bit of a political animal: (1) Greed for oil sows corruption everywhere it's found. (2) Wars are fought and totalitarian governments are kept in power with oil money. (3) Once you have one you know that EVs just plain KICK ***!
I am definitely not a climate change warrior, but I am not oblivious the benefits of zero emissions. Mostly it was because the economics of EV ownership finally made sense, they are fun to drive and low maintenance.
Price to run, my Leaf is nearly 10x cheaper for fuel than my previous vehicle. And will pay for itself in 4 years. Freedom, less pollution and lower costs means I’ll go more places, guilt free. Performance, even the lowly leaf is fun to drive. Increased solar self consumption.
Price to operate and for maintenance Comfort, power and smart features Convenience of charging at home Lesser damage to the environment
2 and 3. Anyone who chooses #1 is fooling themselves. Producing the battery of an EV produces more CO2 than 100k miles of owning a ICE car... Furthermore, cars only create a fairly small percentage of CO2.. Deforestation alone creates more CO2 than all ICE cars on the planet combined... Based on my personal use, an EV is the logical choice.. I drive 30k to 36k miles per year. I don't do a lot of 1000+ mile road trips as I tend to fly if I go that far. The lower amount of required maintenance is an added bonus.. I can say with certainty that I will not go back to an ICE car except for maybe a weekend sports car or a work truck... which both are low mileage purpose cars..
1) Environmental reasons (climate and local air/water pollution concerns) 2) Fun driving experience. 3) Reliability.
1. Free charging where I live (have yet to pay for a charge incl at home, since May 1) 2. $10K subsidy. 3. Low maintenance.
