Dog seat I bought from Amizon. The dog seems very contend to sit in this seat rather than jumping around the car.
I got a 4x6 shop floor mat at Home Depot, then cut it to fit trunk of my Clarity. It covers almost the entire area, looks fine, and does the job; easy to remove/replace to shake out or hose off.
How are you powering the rear dash cam in the trunk? How did you mount it? I am thinking of doing the same so would appreciate your setup!
I've been curious about this for a while now, but is there any method to utilize the pre-existing cameras as dash cams instead? I don't ever use the LaneWatch cam, and I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to remount it to a different direction/orientation. I'm not super knowledgeable on AV tech, but I imagine if the video stream can't be interfaced directly (for DVR), there's likely methods to piggy-back the signal (like through a splitter?) and capture the feed that way? Has anyone attempted anything similar?
I'm not car proud so my favorite accessories are cheap and basic. My very favorite is a non slip rubbery mat that I put on the shift bridge to lay my phone on. Every quarter or so it collects enough grunge so that it looses its stick. I just pull it of and wash it with the dishes and it is as good as new. https://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/cell-phone-holder-lumbar-pad-for-the-clarity.2552/page-2#post-48922 The other item is an E-ZPass holder. We don't need them in VT because we don't have any toll roads or bridges. I got one from MA (best deal around) to use when i travel out of state. In my old car the device was mounted behind the rear view mirror where I could not see it. Now that space is taken up with all the high tech gadgetry. I was not sure where to mount it to make sure it would work so I bought a suction cup gadget to hold the transponder so that it could be moved around until I found the sweet spot. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009Y7MJVS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It worked perfectly stuck on the top of the wind shield to the right of all the polka dots. It has worked in all temperatures and never has fallen off. When i am back in Vermont, I just take it off and store it in the armrest.
Wow, MA is really behind the times on toll pass devices. In Oklahoma, our PikePass is a RF-ID sticker no bigger than the 'ez pass' sticker on that huge box pictured in the photo. (I know, hard to believe a bassackwards state like Oklahoma has a better designed toll device.)
We have RFID stickers in Georgia also, it's nice although it does have a couple of disadvantages over the detachable transponders. For one thing it is stuck to one vehicle (literally) so you can't share them between cars, for example if riding with someone who doesn't have one, or if your car is in the shop and you are driving a rental. Also some areas have transponders with a switch on them that you move to indicate multi-passengers. When switched to single passenger you can use the toll road but it will be charged to your account, but when you set the transponder to multi-passenger you won't be charged. Sort of the honor system although I assume they have cameras to spot check. This type of system is not possible with RFID stickers. But I like the fact that the stickers are less obtrusive. Also Georgia has reciprocal agreements with North Carolina and Florida so we can use the toll roads there and it gets charged to the same account. So I no longer have to bring a roll of quarters with me when I drive down to Florida. Actually driving a PHEV qualifies me for free driving on the toll lanes, except I would have to pay for an alternative fuel license plate and then also get hit with the annual registration surcharge that they recently instituted in Georgia for electric vehicles. I don't use the toll lanes often enough to make it worth the additional registration cost.
Hey, Vermont is even more behind (or ahead) of the times; we don't have any at all. But MA has the great virtue of being free with no upfront cost and no drama. It has reciprical agreements with other EZPass states. I drive from VT to KS without having to fish tolls out of my handbag and try to read the tiny tickets in the dark. The little gizmo works for me.
Indiana (Michigan doesn't have tolls except for the Mighty Mac) charges $1 per month per transponder. We only use ours occasionally for trips into Chicago or vacations, so I appreciate being able to swap it between cars. If it was $1 per month per car it may not be worth it.
Recently purchased the Maxpider 3D floor mats (front only) and have been really happy with them so far. They are so much better than the original mats the car came with, hopefully they will hold up well over time.
I wasn't happy with the gaps in the coverage of Honda's all-weather mats in our Clarity PHEV's first two winters so I bought the front Maxpider 3D mats, too. I plan to snip off the giant rivet that fastens the large logo on the mats so I can remove the large logo. I'll put a piece of tape underneath to block the resulting hole.
Let us know how it goes. While not the end of the world, the logo is the one thing I don't particularly like so far.
If you work on your laptop, you can get a 45w PD car charger to charge your laptop (or fast charge your phone)
Favorite accessory so far has been our maxpider front floor mats. A nearly perfect factory fit, zero movement, and do exactly what they are meant to do with the added plus of improving looks of an already nice interior. Yeah, I was going to do that too but, after living with them for a few weeks, that thought has moved several slots down on the priority list; maybe when cooler weather comes, maybe not.
I have the 3D mats, the fit is perfect as mentioned. I would have paid an extra couple of bucks to get the 'no branded' version.
I de-branded my Maxpider 3D mats today. It was easier than I anticipated. What look like 2 rivet heads on the underside of the mats are just press-on caps that pry off very easily. I put down some duct tape between the two posts before prying off the caps, but the caps came off so easily that the duct tape wasn't necessary to protect the underside of the mat. After removing the emblem, I covered the two holes with duct tape on the bottom of the mat and replaced the piece of felt that formerly covered the caps. The outline of the emblem remains permanently indented, but it's much easier to ignore than the emblem itself. I expect the emblem would get scuffed up with time and not look very good. Here's the emblem after removal, sitting on the mat behind its former location.
I have a small dashcam (blueskysea) but using a suction cup holder mounted just below the polka dots. I went this way because I was afraid of using the 3m double side tape it came with it and ruining the polka dots if I had to remove it. Our Ody has the polka dots but they are part of the windshield so the surface is glass and I can stick the dash cam holder (and EZ pass holder there). So does anyone know if the dots could be damaged?
Hi, where were you able to get the 3dMaxPider ones, here in Canada the websites seem to indicate they don't make mats for the Clarity. Thx.
