Is there a recall on the Clarity right now? My dealer is telling me there is and they can’t test drive any until the fix is performed.
As of 11pm EDT 10/5/2018, there are not any official public "recalls" out on the Honda Clarity. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/HONDA/CLARITY%252520PLUG-IN%252520HYBRID ========= 2018 HONDA CLARITY PLUG-IN HYBRID 0 RECALLS 0 INVESTIGATIONS 23 COMPLAINTS ========= There are Technical Service Bulletins from Honda to address some issues/problems. However, as afar as I know, none are "critical". Well, not counting the many system errors because the modules on a control bus (CAN bus) too longer to initialize than someone initially thought (e.g. - it took 5/100ths of a second, not 4/100ths of a second). That doesn't mean that Honda hasn't maybe flagged a potential problem, and has temporarily halted selling the cars.
Thank you. I’ve asked what it’s for and will let you know if he responds. I also told him I wasn’t in a hurry to purchase. Hopefully he isn’t playing games to avoid seeing me this weekend. Next step is showing my wife. I may just go to another dealer in person and see what they have to say.
Post #7 in this thread indicates dealers are just now being informed of a coming recall consolidating several service bulletins. https://www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/service-bulletins.3480/
Problably is what plagues many points of retail: product ignorance and sloppiness vs anything ill-intended. You're doing the right thing by getting facts and informed before setting foot because you'll be 100x better educated to make a solid decision and strong negotiation.
Looks legit, I got a notification on the Honda link app. Recall notice by lorem101 posted Oct 7, 2018 at 10:57 AM
I got the exact notification on my HondaLink app this morning - "book a car appointment" was not how I planned on starting my Thanksgiving Sunday, but oh well!
My dealer is in the US and responded with a simple "It's a software update" email. This dealer has a lot of vehicles in stock (relative to other dealers) with a mix of newer and older vins. I have been monitoring another dealer, who has given me the best email price quote yet, and they went from three in stock down to two over the weekend.
Had to call my dealer in Boston about something and asked about the recall. They just heard about it and booked and appointment (and a loaner car).
Yes. They offered up a loaner car for the service. Oddly (or maybe not given it’s a Clarity) the dealer cancelled my service appointment for Saturday. Apparently so few people understand this car they need me to bring it in during the week when their head technician is available. Not a big deal for me - I thought it was pretty funny. My hope is the charging issue gets working better. Still love the car - 1100 miles and 2.9 gallons of gas used.
Mine VIN is 80073X. I dropped the car off Friday morning at the dealership and picked it up after work after having the software update applied. I asked the service advisor what the update did or if I should notice any difference in how the car behaves - "I honestly don't know" was the answer. At least she was honest?
