Sudden (phantom) braking on cruise control!

  1. I didn't find this topic here but see it all over the internet.

    While driving on cruise control (not autopilot) between Seattle and Portland last week my car suddenly and inexplicably braked (is that a word?)! The first time it happened we were on a highway, going about 40mph. We were in a curve and there was a parked police car on the corner. We thought my 3 saw the lights and decided it needed to stop immediately. But that doesn't explain the second time. Driving down I5 at the speed limit, no cars around us, my car abruptly brakes, nearly coming to a stop from 70mph! Thankfully there were no cars behind us.

    I don't know what if anything Tesla is doing about this but they better not wait until someone is killed - think semi truck behind you when your car suddenly brakes - before fixing this!

    I found a place where it was reproducible. The mapping software would change to the auxiliary lane speed, 40 mph. I documented the problem and the next upgrade had a GPS fix. Regardless, I keep my foot near the accelerator to quickly respond.
