  1. About 7-8 yrs ago I had interest in a new Chevy Volt. Went my local dealer (larger dealership) to inquiry. Was told point blank by a sales person they had zero interest in selling the Volts. Recently stopped to inquiry about the Bolt status. Was told they would add at least 5k to the msrp. Then tried to push me to the new Hummer. No thanks.

I think @Puppethead already mentioned this, but seriously the Mini Coper SE is a great option. Shorter range (110-120mi), but it’s cheap, fun, safe, seats 4 (mostly), and did I mention cheap? Not a solid road tripper, but I have done a couple several hundred mile round trips in the Ohio, and the DCFC network is really quite good, even with the small battery and slow (50kw) charging speed.

I can't see the Mini Cooper being an option for most Americans, particularly those who live in the west. My initial question was looking for a car that would be the only car, for most Americans, for under $30,000.
