The charge port is in the rear, why?

Why did they put the charge port in the rear of the ID-4? The cables from Electrify America are too short and we mostly have to back in to charge. I get the length of the charge cable as there is a huge amount of energy going through it.

Don't know. I suppose in part it is because for a RWD vehicle, the relevant power electronics are also going to be in the rear and not in the front. But that's just my guess - I haven't seen anything from VW saying why they did this.

The Rav4 Prime also has the charge port in the rear. Most of the Rav4 electronics and main drive motor are in the front.

  5. Even "Revolutionary" vehicles evolve from everything which came before.

VW has placed their fuel-filler caps in the right-rear fender for decades.

As odd as it sounds, that might have had as much to do w/ the choice as anything - institutional practices are notoriously slow to change.

I'm so old you had to lift the hood to add gas to my first VW.
