220v meltdown

    Maybe the contact on the receptacle oxidized and caused an eletrical arc, which heated and melted it. Similar thing happened to my 110 pool pump.

  3. If you look at the photos, you’ll see that the wire was barely touching/connected to the prong. It is almost a miracle that it even worked.

    Yes, and furthermore, with a connection (or non-connection) like that, I would be afraid there could be some arcing. I would dread the thought of arcing (and the associated spikes / transients that the Clarity may experience as a result). Luckily, the car seems to have come through OK.
