What home chargers do you have? I'm thinking of getting the plug in Charge Point one. Anyone have any other recommendations?

I have a Tesla HPWC I plan on using with TeslaTap adapter. I just used the 120V charger included with the vehicle. It topped up 75% in about 9 hours time. Plenty for my commute. I have a charger at work. Apart from that, I have heard great things about ClipperCreek.

I’ve got the ChargePoint 32 amp in hardwired flavor to save some money. It charges up from 0 EV miles to full in a little over 2 hours. Most of the time I return home with some charge and it fills up in a hour or so. I think it’s best feature is the WiFi and software app that lets you track your energy usage in every way imaginable.

We got a Siemens Versicharge (VC30GRYU). It takes 2 hours to charge to 100%.

I have an OpenEVSE, but it’s not for everyone. I am an electronics hobbyist and former electricians assistant so I am confident with my build.

Having said that, the new kits that Chris has designed practically assemble themselves. No soldering, minimal crimping, plug in connections already wired. It’s a great project if you really want to know what’s going on inside that box on the wall.

Otherwise I’d recommend Clipper Creek. I’ve been an EV nerd for years and those get the least complaints and seem to be able to survive neglect and abuse in public spaces pretty well so they are going to be more than safe for home use. They are made in USA and what I would pick if I was buying instead of building.

Is any one buying charger ahead of arrival of clarity delivery in Canada ?

You will probably get some great answers from the Canadian folks on here. Seems to be quite a few.

You might want to see if your area has any rebates available as some in Canada do. They have lists of eligible devices that can help you narrow down your list. You might also have to file something before purchase to be eligible.

Good luck with your Clarity. It’s exciting that EVs are so popular in Canada.

Great deal and great choices. For those not aware, Sun Country=Clipper Creek.

I ordered a ChargePoint, it's 20% off and has a ton of features and data for me to geek out on. Amazon shows an estimated arrival of April 27-May 18, but it's not a big deal cause I'm still waiting for my clarity to arrive

I am debating between the Chargepoint ($880 at Amazon) and the JuiceBox Pro ($999) so the price difference is less than $70 after the Ontario rebate. Both have WiFi and an app where you can remotely schedule charging and can provide a charging report. The only other main difference is you need 40A for CP and 50A for JB but if I want to futureproof, I might as well do the 50A install as the labour is the more expensive component in the install (I presume) so might as well pay a little more now instead of re-doing it in the future (make sense?).

Chargepoint seems to have a slightly better review and a is backed by a bigger company with public Level3 charging but I am not sure if this is a considering factor or not.

Anyone can help me to decide? Still waiting for the car so it's not as urgent but not sure when the Amazon sale will end for the Chargepoint

My suggestion is NOT to buy any charger BEFORE car is register in your name. that way we know for sure that we will get rebate, see all the links provided above.

Chargers having WiFi is cool but why bother when your car has data and your app can schedule charging as well as start/stop charge on demand?

I ordered the Chargepoint. Earth day sale ends April 22 if I recall. I picked this one as it has intelligence to connect with hydro one for time off use rates to calculate cost. I wanted something so I know how much I'm spending without wasting time developing my own solution.

I think in many cases the data available from the chargers is much richer and also can be manipulated more easily. In the case of the OpenEVSE you could even create your own app if you wanted to get that deep in the muck.

I like your logic going with 50A right now because of two reasons: 1) You can future proof for any EV in future and 2) Rebate may not be available at that point in time when you are ready for new EV with high Amp requirement to charge faster for Bigger battery. Only thing is that you have to be sure that you are not moving.

Based on the MTO docs it states:
My understanding of this is I can purchase the EVSE now, get it installed and have an ESA certificate completed when I receive my Clarity and submit it before 180 days of the ESA certificate.
It doesn't look like the purchase date of the EVSE is important unless you're not getting an ESA certificate.

I could be wrong, but this is my understanding from reading the docs. Anyone have any experience with submitting the EVCIP application?
