Again, congrats! You'll be one of the only SEs out there because the factory is closed. We'll look forward to your reports on YouTube. I hope the acceleration won't be disappointing after so much time in your Model 3.

Here are some questions that only you can answer:
    1. Is there can any way to have a triple-black MINI Cooper SE other than the Iconic trim with the optional black seats?
    2. What are the make, model, and size of the tires (er, tyres)? The Miami test cars had Goodyear Eagle F1s.
    3. How much does your MINI weigh?
    4. What's the front/rear weight distribution?
    5. Is the one-pedal regen braking anywhere close to that of your Model 3?
    6. Will you be charging your MINI to only 80% like your Model 3? I bet the MINI has a bigger % top-end buffer.
Don't let them push you out the door without a full charge! (Many Clarity PHEVs have been delivered with NO charge.)
I'll be interested to learn who in your family grabs the most drive-time in the MINI. Will you foist the M3 on your wife?

Well, I can tell you our car is triple black and it is the middle trim package.

I will probably charge the car to 90% daily. I agree with you that Mini is probably protecting more of the top of the charge than Tesla does.

My wife well drive the Mini more than I. My Model 3 is my work car.

I plan on comparing every aspect of the Mini to my Model 3.

I will make sure they charge the car all the way up. We live 40 miles from the dealer and I want to make sure we have plenty of range to mess around with after getting home.

Oh, this is the first SE in the state of Illinois......

I will have a near dead-lock on the Mini SE YouTube market.

That's a big responsibility you've been saddled with.

There's never been a hint of a Signature Plus SE with all-black upholstery. Does "Combination 11" represent the triple-black combo? Can you find out what other combination numbers are and what they represent? Your dealer is obviously well-connected to be able to pull your MINI out of thin air.

Well, it is a "Two tone cloth". However, the pictures we have seen show the seats to be black and dark grey. Overall, the interior is almost 100% black. That being said, it may look different in person than in pictures.

The photos of the Signature and Signature Plus trims always show light-colored headliners and pillars. The Iconic trim comes with Anthracite Black headliner and pillars, no matter what color the exterior is painted (and regardless of whether you ordered the $500-extra black seats). We'll know very soon.

We drove the Tesla. So, no one is really "Stuck".

Well, whomever got to drive the MINI, I hope there was a winding road home for them rather than an expressway.

Great! I've already watched parts of it 5 times. You were very generous to let your wife drive the new car home. I hope your YouTube Tesla fans don't abandon you, but you'll make up for the loss of any haters with new MINI Electric fans. You've got a niche all to yourself for a while.

When you get around to your VBOX testing, please find out if with the accelerator floored Sport Mode gets to 60 faster than Mid Mode. I know Sport Mode offers quicker accelerator-pedal mapping, but don't know if it actually accelerates the car quicker.

It appears that in Green+ mode the car still gets full throttle. But, it ramps the throttle up a bit slowly.

Oh, yes, my Tesla fans are not too happy with me.

That's surprising (not the disaffected Tesla fans, but that Green+ gets full throttle). It will be very interesting to see if you get the same 0-60 mph time all 4 modes.

The only EV that I've seen that specs different power levels for different modes is the Fit EV (123 HP Sport/100 Normal/60 Eco). Often climate and some other functions are restricted in the most economical driving mode on EVs, but not actual power available.

I drove in Sport Mode in the Fit EV for that very reason. When the best "escape" is acceleration, having full power to do so is desirable (comes from decades on a motorcycle). Having to find a button to push to get full power to avoid a bad situation could take more time than is available.

I started watching your stuff more when you got the Smart ED, and that's from a Tesla owner (me).

  21. Hey @Matt Shumaker - thanks for your posts, really enjoying the YouTube videos too!

I have a Level 3 Mini Electric on order with the Midnight Black metallic paint finish.

I was hoping you could let me know how you are getting on with this paint colour - do you find it to be a dust/dirt magnet?

Somewhat. However, it is such a small car it is very easy to clean.

Level 3 in the UK is the top of the line, roughly corresponding to the Iconic trim in the US. Does the Level 3 come with grey or black leather seats? The Iconic comes with the Satellite Grey seats, but $500 will buy black.

How long between placing an order and delivery in the UK? I'm at 8 months with no delivery date in sight (even though I'm insightman). My dealer confirmed today that Plant Oxford went back to work on Monday, May 18th, but with only a single shift for now.
