Nissan Connect app alternative?

  1. I find the Nissan Connect app pretty unhelpful for my 2019 Leaf - it's very unreliable and seemingly only works when it wants to. I had been using the EVA Leaf app very happily until Nissan changed the API (whatever that is) and it no longer worked. I know there was a security reason, but it still leaves me without a remote reading of my battery charge (which is what I primarily wanted.....the stats are interesting, but the battery charge is necessary).

I could go full-info and get the LeafSpy Pro app and leave the OBD II always plugged in, but it seems like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. Then again, the information on LeafSpy Pro might be a good thing anyway.

    Suggestions? Opinions?

It’s wonky for sure but I seldom have issues with my 2018 Leaf. To check battery, I hit the circle just to the right of the time and close the app afterwards. I then wait for the notification to pop up then open the app again. I then hit the 3 bars on the top right, then hit the E on the top right again to return to the home page. The correct battery and time it was measured is now displayed. Yes it’s a bit laborious but it works 99 times out of 100 for me. I also find that hitting the climate control timer and start now often results in a climate control failed to start message, but it starts every time. Now if I use the set timer function, it works flawlessly.

  4. Consider yourself lucky -- it works about 15/100 times for me.

Do you live in an area with poor cell reception?

I find that logging out of the app, and the signing back in after the circle stops spinng gets me updated info 98% of the time.

Works all the time for me, just sometimes you have to try the command (like refreshing the status) a couple of times before you get the screen refresh.

After several chargers of one certain company (EnBW in Germany) stopped the Leaf while charging, causing serious problems for me urgently seeking for reliable chargers (several times, having an unexpected empty car after returning to it) I started creating an app for detecting charging aborts and such. Well the app grew... ;)

If you have any suggestions on improving, please tell me. My apps live by your ideas.

An updated version will be available in a few hours, I just uploaded it, offering timed climate control (including schedules).

(of course, the app is only as good as the Nissan API is).
