    Hi All,
I'll be purchasing a Kona ev soon and would like to get my home charger installed. Any recommendations? It will be outside as I don't have a garage. Thanks!

Has anyone had to get a wifi extender for an outdoor installation of chargepoint? My install will be about 25 ft from my house and the router is about another 50 ft inside the home. I've seen some bad reviews about wifi extenders overheating.

  6. 2.4 GHz routers should yield 150' indoor range and up to 300' outdoor range so extender not required.

  8. A lot of variables effect range. If you do find that you need an extender, no worries. I run several types and have not experienced any overheating. Stick to a brand name would be my 2 cents.

It all depends on what type of walls or doors you have. I have a 2.4 Ghz router and I can't get internet in my garage and In-law apartment. My interior doors are solid wood and the wall from the house to the garage is block and there is also an internal block wall to get to the in-law apartment. The garage is about 50 ft. From the router and the in-law apartment 100 feet away. I have a range extender to have internet at the in-law apartment..

Being who I am why do you need a wifi unit when the car does all of that for you... Just plug your charger in, the car will do all the rest. from scheduling to charging to a certain percentage

  13. I am with you. I have no wifi and am quite content charging without it. Bluelink sends me notification which is nice but I usually just look at the time remaining when I plug in and mentally note when its done and then unplug it after its done.. I have never used the timer as I have grid tie solar with net metering so time of charge is irrelevant for me.

I got this MUSTART from Amazon for $379. Just had an electrician install a NEMA 14-50 outlet 50 amp, the Kona draws at 32 amps. The plus is it can be unplugged and taken with you on a trip, plus you can get a NEMA 10-30 adaptor which in the States fits most common drier outlets and draws 26 amps. So far I'm very happy with it.

Thanks everyone for the info. I'm not going to go with Wi-Fi as well. Read a commentary on chargepoint that said if your Wi-Fi goes down or it can't connect it doesn't retain the scheduling. Evidently juice box doesn't do this but my electrician is pretty strongly recommending clipper creek. Think I'll go with that one. Thanks again!

I wondered the same thing at first when I got my Zencar EVSE which did a great job with my Kona. But, over a few months, I realized that I wanted an easier way to track my monthly EV charging kWh so I could accurately account for my house electricity vs EV charging. The Zencar's fatal flaw was that its kWh counter would reset after a power outage which made it unhelpful for my purposes. So, then I bought a JuiceBox which has a lifetime kWh counter that I can take measurements from on the 1st of every month (irregardless of whether the power went out or not). We all have our different reasons. :) The Zencar has gone on to a new life at my girlfriend's house where I don't need the lifetime stats.

That's a good reason for it then..
