I like a good feeling steering wheel. I have not sat in a base model Clarity yet, but I like leather wheels, how is it, and have you thought about wrapping it?
The base model steering wheel is pretty good by itself. I wouldn't mess with a wrap on that. My $0.02 BTW, the best steering wheels in my opinion are the wooden ones in the Lexus ES350. So smooth and nice
It's a nice fat wheel, but I like the feel of leather so I got this cheap pseudo-leather wrap which works great and adds some cushiness to the grip.
http://wheelskins.com/ For non leather (or worn leather) steering wheel, it's the best. Takes about an hour to install, but not difficult to do.
I use wheelskins on every cars I have, except the Clarity because it's my wife's car. I used it even the wheel is already leather because I like how it feels and it adds thickness to the wheel which I prefer. Yes, it needs some work to install but totally worth it. Also, look for the instruction of double stitching and ask for additional thread for that, which will make it very OEM look. Wear work gloves to protect your hands so you can pull the thread tight, the tigher the better it looks. My friends didn't even notice I had wrapped the wheel.
I think I may have found it! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0723HPYT9/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2OWBB29PU44YF
Off topic a bit, but I’m going to attempt to replace with leather Civic Sport Touring steering wheel. I’ll keep you posted... above about $150/shipped. GRIP *NH900L* (LEA) Part Number: 78501-TBA-A21ZA
Go with this one, cost more but your Clarity will be the only one which has heated steering wheel https://www.collegehillshonda.com/product/08U97-TLA-110.html
Thanks, wondered what the ‘blank’ button was reserved for. This would be an interesting install in cold states, with unbearably chilly temps of 72˚F my mittens do just fine in Arizona.
Living here in Canada, the heated steering wheel is a great upgrade to me but I am not confident to remove the Clatiry's steering wheel by myself. So please take as much pictures as you can when you do the replacing, that would be the great help.
I’ll post a DIY but above is a sample. To be fully OEM+ the lower section of civic wheel and two screws will need to be ordered, but I did a workaround for now. Takes about a full hour, but I don’t want to rush it. Overall I like it even though it’s a dark grey, not black.
This cover looks like it can mimic the OEM look. Supposedly real leather too. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Authentic-Leather-Steering-Wheel-Cover-for-Honda-Civic-2016-2017-CRV-Anti-Slip-/162245190128
I tried the wrap, didn't like it and returned it to amazon. Ended up doing what @chris5168 did. Here is my write up: https://ngnpenn.blogspot.com/2019/12/clarity-leather-steering-wheel-upgrade.html
- Steering wheel $116 shipped. - 10mm bit $4 from amazon. - 2 foot pipe $3 from local hardware store. - 1/2 drive ratchet (I borrowed but price ranges from $5 to $50) - ratchet extensions $12 from amazon - plastic pry tool (I used a small cheap one for a smartphone, I broke it by the end) So $140. With all the right tools, it will take 1.5 hours, most of that on prying the buttons out.
A lot less expensive than buying the Touring trim. I always think the leather steering wheel is the most important part of the Touring package because I'm touching it all the time and it feels good. I've never had a heated steering wheel in any car so I don't miss it.
I have a 2018 Touring Clarity and would love to have a heated steering wheel. Is there a connector on the Clarity for the heated steering wheel? Has anyone installed the Civic sport heated steering wheel and got the heating element to work?
