Where did you go to file the support ticket? I will do it as well. Maybe if they see more people report these issues they will realize it is an issue. I am going to take a road trip today and will be using a DC fast charger for the first time. I will see if the screen turns off.

Using the 120V charger I also see the LCD stay lit with the "P" if I do not lock the vehicle. I am not using scheduled charging. Once I lock the car, the LCD with go dark within about a minute.
The LCD problem seems to be associated with the 120V charger. Where did you file a ticket? I will want to file one as well-

The problem is not caused by the 120V charger. As I noted a few posts back, it also happens with a level2 charging station if you follow the steps I outlined. The few times I tested immediate charging (starting as soon as you connect the cable) instead of delayed (off-peak) scheduled charging, the screen did turn off correctly for me. But maybe it was just dumb luck. I usually always use the delayed charging because my electricity is cheaper late at night.

I filed a complaint through the https://ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs site but I think those messages just go in the trash. I didn't even get a confirmation email or anything. Will be visiting my dealer this weeks to see if there's anything they can do.

Found another bug related to charging. I have maximum charging limit set to 60% since I don't need much range for my daily commute. Every morning when I turn on the car, I'm greeted with this weird message:

I get the same message after I unplug from my level 2. They really need to fix these bugs. The crazy one that they said would be fixed in production models is the battery discharge warning when you shut off the car, leave the doors closed and it says to have the "engine" running to prevent battery discharge.
I will file a bug report using the link above. Please update us after you visit the dealership. Thanks!

Yes, I noticed that "keep engine on" warning as well. It's a remnant from the ICE Niro where you need to keep engine running to power the alternator.

Considering this car has been selling in Korea since June 2018, it's kind of disappointing they still have all these software issues on the USA model. Not to mention that Kona (released May 2018) also shares most of this battery/powertrain hardware and software.

I'm dropping my car off at the dealer on Friday for some minor interior trim issue. When I made the appointment they told me there were no software updates available for our cars. I still explained some of the charging bugs and will try to push them to escalate to KIA engineering.

Looks like the Kona EV also had its share of software issues related to charging. Appears to use the same software as the Niro EV.
    https://www.speakev.com/threads/scheduled-charging-not-working.138524/

Also, over in the UK they had a recall for a couple software upgrades (https://www.speakev.com/threads/software-updates.133548/). One cluster upgrade had this description:
"This upgrade is to solve some issue that it remains an afterimage on LCD after IG off"

Hard to be sure given the poor Korean translation but maybe they are talking about the same issue I posted here? Where the LCD shows an image after the "Ignition" is off and car is charging?

I had a dealer visit on Friday and unsurprisingly, they wouldn't do anything. Claimed there are no software upgrades and it's operating as intended.

I'm finally on the EV-A rate and trying to get the off-peak charging to work.
I noticed I needed to set a departure time in order to even access the off-peak charging section in the menu.
Do I need to have the departure time set for each day I want off-peak charging to occur? For example, I had a departure time set for several days from now, and the Niro did not charge during the off-peak window.
Can I still have the off peak charging schedule active without any departure times set?
I'm still using the 120V charger (getting 240V to the garage will require running through the attic and I need to wait for the weather to cool down...)

    Thanks for any advice...

The charging settings on this car are a bit buggy and confusing.

For your situation, you will have to set a departure time for each day of the week that you want the car to charge. Then also set the off-peak hours. The car will ignore the departure time and use your off-peak schedule to start charging.

Please let me know if your car also fails to turn off the instrument cluster after it begins scheduled charging.

For anyone who actually does want departure-time charging instead of off-peak charging, I did find a work-around. Somehow by toggling the charging schedule settings in their Android app, I was able to completely clear the off-peak times. It now just shows a blank "--" line through all the off-peak times. This has enabled the departure-time menu to actually work for me. The system is still not very accurate - it usually finishes charging an hour or more before actual departure but at least it does reliably charge the car each night.

The reason why someone may prefer departure charging over off-peak charging, might be to maximize time spent charging on solar for example. If you depart during daytime, the car would get as much charging done as possible while the sun is up instead of completing the entire charge early during the night.

Wizziwig - thanks for the advice. Setting a departure time every day seems to have done the trick.

So I ran a few experiments over the weekend and was able to test the instrument display behavior.
Bottom line: once the scheduled charging starts, the instrument display comes on with the "P" and odometer reading. It turns off once scheduled charging ends. This happens whether the car is unlocked or locked prior to scheduled charing beginning.
The only way to turn off the instrument display is to press the lock button on the smart key fob once scheduled charging has started.

Thanks for confirming. That's exactly how my car behaves. I feel this is wrong and a software bug. Displaying a useless 'P' while the car is charging serves no purpose at all and just wastes power keeping that display illuminated. Not to mention consuming the lifespan of that LCD more than necessary. It's clearly an unintended bug or it wouldn't turn off by pressing 'lock' on the remote. Neither the Bolt EV or Tesla do this.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but has anyone had any luck with this being fixed? I'm in Canada and have the same issue, have also recently bee in touch with my dealer and Kia regarding free software and map updates I was promised at sale time not being offered anymore. Anyone not having this issue? If so would you share your software version under your radio's settings? Particularly interested in other Canadian owners.

    Thanks!

Still not fixed here in USA. I've had my car to the dealer multiple times (still there actually) and always been told there are no updates.

I've actually found yet another charging related bug. If you abort a scheduled charge and quickly pull the plug, it will sometimes leave the car in a stuck state where it thinks it's charging despite the plug not being connected. The instrument cluster remains lit as well as the blinking charging lights on top of the dash. It will remain this way indefinitely. These items are powered by the 12V battery so if you didn't realize it was stuck and left the car unattended for a long time, you would probably return to a dead 12V battery.

Why would you pull the charger out without turning it off first???

So is there anyone who is actually having success with scheduled charging and scheduled climate features? I know many in the UK are apparently having no such issues, and I wonder if this has something to do with their lack of app support...?

I have no issues scheduling charging using my juice box. Set it to charge and it comes on every time. Is that what you are talking about.

Never looked to see if the p is lit up.

No, this isn't what I'm talking about. I'm wondering if anyone is having success with the car's scheduled charging and climate settings? This means that the car controls when the charge needs to start to reach selected battery level by the next departure time and that the climate automatically starts to the preselected settings at the selected departure time. Not that your EVSE does all the work.

The car was already turned off and charging as part of its regular charging schedule. To abort a charge you just hit the "unlock" button on fob and remove the cable within a few seconds before it automatically relocks. That's how it got stuck in the charging state without cable connected. Similar to fixing other cases where the instrument cluster gets stuck on 'P' during charging, you need to hit fob lock button to reset it or it will remain this way forever until 12V battery is dead.

I kind of regret having spent around $200 extra for the smarter version of my evse. Friday night, I turned the charging on on my evse but since my car's schedule was only scheduled to charge before a departure time of 11h40 on Saturday morning, the evse software must have given up tracking sometime before that. When I took my car on Saturday afternoon, it was charged up to 90 % as I had preset it in the car's schedule setting but the evse software doesn't show me as having had any charging sessions at all which makes it useless as a means to track how much electricity I have used up.

Second failed attempt but this time the car did not charge at all.
I think it is because I did not try to also turn on the charging on my evse last night. I skipped that part this time around since it timed out on my first attempt.

I'll try to think of giving this a 3rd go tonight. If the start time of my car's charging schedule was set in stone, I could try to also schedule my EVSE to start just 5 minutes before my car does. But since it is my car itself that decides when it should start charging based on the departure time, I'd be hard to coordinate this.
