  1. Autogefühl spent some time going over the Hyundai Kona at the Detroit Auto Show. While this is not the electric version, it's a pretty good introduction to the car's styling and ergonomics.

Hehehe, I just saw the video before you posted. The backseat is too small. I'm crossing it off the list.

They increased the length by .59 inches.

In 5 days, pre-order for Kona EV has surpassed 10,850 in Korea.

That's bad news for the US market. Hyundai will have a hard time meeting Korea and Norway demand.

5000 Bolt EV has sold out in one day. The government has set aside 20,000 EVs for subsidies for 2018. Due to overwhelming demand, a emergency meeting is scheduled to increase the subsidies for 2018.

  6. Autogefühl specializes in video reviews that are high in detail, and sometimes a little long in length. In this episode, they've caught up with the Hynundai Kona as it sits on its stand at the Geneva Motor Show.

They go over the exterior styling, and then jump in both the front seat and rear, giving their impressions of space and functionality.

This particular one falls down a bit when the presenter gets a bit confused and says it comes with one of two engines, but he meant to say batteries. He also expresses the energy storage of the batteries in terms of kilowatts instead of kilowatt-hours.

Still, it's cool in that, not only do we get a look under the hood of a regular display vehicle, they also spend a little time with the cutaway version that shows the layout (with labels!) of various components and the battery.

Overall, well worth the 15-minute time investment. One-and-a-half thumbs up.

  8. Interesting that the fascia on this mule is smooth, unlike the one at the Geneva Motor Show.

  9. Alex on Autos has a short introductory Kona Electric video. Well worth the 3 minutes and 40 seconds.

Important point he mentions at the end is the Kona Electric will first only be available in California, before then going to the other CARB states. Eventually, it should make it to the rest of the country.

He also points out the heads up display, which I don't recall seeing anywhere else before.

The link below is a test drive from last week with Norwegian plates but could only be published from today.
Björn Nyland could test it for one day and a multi day test will follow in a few weeks.

Have fun watching part #1 and #2:

I like this video about Smart Recuperation.

  13. Wrote up a post about this Aussie review for InsideEVs. Sharing it here because it's pretty good and even if you're already an owner, you might get a kick out of it.

The host in the video has comedic ways and charm so I enjoyed it.

As one would expect from 'Straya.

  16. Bingo! At 16:52 they show a spare tire in the rear under the 2nd section c/w jack and lug wrench.
I hope it can be fitted onto the electric version and purchased through Hyundai. I notice at wiki the curb weight of the 1.6T is 1500 kg and the door label on my Kona ultimate GVWR is 2160 kg ( may be a problem with the smaller size spare )
I will discuss this with the techs next time at the dealership

Lol. Did he simply buy a car? Feels like he might have saved the whole country or something. :)

  19. When I got mine it was a short trip to the finance office then sent me out with the keyfob to a wet car awaiting me in a remote part of the lot.
North American dealers have a lot to learn about sales.;)

  20. Just saw a new Bell smart home commercial where the bickering couple are driving a grey Kona EV. First time I have seen one on TV.

  21. Actually, I had a pretty good experience with my Kona buy and pick-up. The sales person, sales manager and everyone else I dealt with there were really helpful and nice. Gave me a good deal on my trade-in, too.

When I picked up my car on May 1 (made the deal a week or so earlier), they had my pic taken with the sales person to put on their facebook page. Apparently I was the first sale with the new fed EV subsidy which came into effect on May 1.

This was the White Rock Hyundai dealer. Interestingly, the car I traded in was a Prius C which I had bought at the Toyota dealer right next door 5 years ago. I know when I did the negotiation, the sales manager called his counterpart next door to help with the pricing of the trade-in.

I went to several Hyundai dealers (incl my local one in Langley), and by far this White Rock dealer was the best with info, best deal, and response to phone calls, etc. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

This video is on the Kia Niro, but there are some things of value on it that apply to the KOna EV and 2020 Soul EV. The side mirror tilting in the first part of the video is not applicable.
