I know it's an on-going love hate relationship for most of us with the Hondalink app and service. I'm sitting here as I post this charging at work before I head home. You'll notice in the image I attached that the current time is after 9pm and hondalink last updated about an hour ago.

Can anyone tell me the following...

    1. Is there any rhyme or reason to when the app updates communication with the car?
    2. Is there a way to force an update.

Honestly in my experience it's been random, ranging from 15 mins to an hour. Even if I stop charge or try to connect to the climate control, it's not assured I'll get an update. And yes on all cases the car has good signal. From the picture you can see it updated around the time I plugged it in. It shows that status but everything else is a crap shoot.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

  3. I've heard that if you do "locate my car" that forces an update. Seems to work for me.

Locate didn't make mine update, but "turn on climate" did. Also it updates (and sends messages) when the car is plugged into an EVSE.

I don't like to turn on climate just to update the app so I use schedule charge instead. You don't have to change the schedule just do the following:

    Press Schedule Charge
    Press Modify Schedule
Don't change anything, just tap the check mark in the upper right hand corner.
After about a minute you get a message Charge Schedule Set, press OK, then on the next screen press X in the upper left hand corner. Now you have an updated screen.

Seems like a lot of steps when spelled out like that but after doing it a few times it's pretty easy and takes no more time than turning climate on and off.

It is a known fact that when charging, Honda Link only updates the SOC every 15% of charge. So the slower the charging rate the longer the time interval between update in his scenarios. Speculation is that this non 100% real time updating is to save bandwidth and associates costs since Honda is paying for all these cellular data transmissions so we get HL for free and Homda gets a boat load of data to do R&D with.
Also if the car is in a location with no or very weak cell signal coverage, it cannot reach Honda’s servers and update.
My HL has been very reliable except for the times that Honda’s servers go down.
