I googled first before posting in case someone here already posted. With VESS off,it's easier to hear the squeak that sounds like my brakes need work. The squeaks definitely occur when I am slowly driving forward, or regenerating, not necessarily while using the mechanical brake.

Could this be affecting my poor regeneration [with paddle use] when it's set to level 3?

Concern, pre mature strut ,or shocks, even brakes going bad?

Production: 12.29.18; do I have that clunking to look forward to next :(

  3. Probably a little rust on the rotors , I wouldn't get concerned unless it doesn't go away or increases in some form.
I just had a screwdriver fall out of my tool pouch on the way home when stopping and it must have rolled around for a bit. Thought it was a clunk issue (which it was), just not the vehicle:D

@Brennan Raposo you had the hissing, and high pitched motor noise. Did your situation start with some squeal like the brakes need work? I have had this issue re occur for a month now.I am not sure when it started, just noticed it more in July-August.

@electriceddy the squeal does increase at times,I think that's how I finally noticed it,above the stupid VESS. It's not the mechanical brake since regen.is kinetic, engine braking, when the squeel/squeak is present.

    Yes!
I initially brought in my car a couple of months after purchase thinking it was the brakes. The initial service mechanic agreed and said there's nothing that can be done because Hyundai used poorly engineer brake-spacing clips and they were prone to rubbing. Made sense to me at the time but then I thought - the frequency never changes, it stops completely when regen is off and it also didn't occur at very low speeds or in reverse. And that's when I started the topic above. I won't get into much detail but yes, I think what you're hearing is the same as the many many people who have chimed in on that post.
Grab a seat, make some tea/coffee and make yourself comfortable for a long read lol

I went to a garage I knew wouldn't be busy to record the hiss , squeal ...
Without the VESS, the non electric engine whirl's quite audible.
    HVAC, infotainment sounds off.
At the end of the test when my mobile's camera was off,I heard the clunk in the quiet garage. It seemed to be coming from the right , rear passenger side.
Security investigated why I was driving around in circles.I told him it's for science, and I was finished :D
Hope this helps.I was dizzy after taking this video, and thankfully didn't run over my mobile.

  9. The clunk is quite noticeable at the end, interesting that it may be coming from the rear suspension

update: post installing the Khumo ECSTA PA51,235/50/17, the squeak , squeal has died down after one full day of use. During acceleration , regeneration, there is just a slight squeal.

@Brennan Raposo , provide the forum the low gear drive unit part number, did your Kona have any DTC codes? Reported my issue to Hyundai, have my incident number. As long as we all communicate,Hyundai cannot say they've "never heard" of the hiss/clunk issue.
@electriceddy , VERY short lived hiss/squeal noise reduction. It's baaaaack. Took it in for the Hyundai technician to "hear" the hiss/squeal bouncing off the walls with music off, windows down.Service thinks the VESS disconnection may be a contributing factor?!

  13. You might have a hard time getting Brennan to supply part# as the experience so far on this forum is the dealers tend not to supply this info for replacement parts.
As far as the VESS disconnect contributing to the hiss noise goes :

  15. Yes to your question if they are the same. I don't know if it helped Brennan
