  1. Put our deposit down for the ETron Suv back in April, just got notice today from our myaudi account that our car has finished production... still has some time till delivery obviously. Lurking around these boards because I have questions... Will think about what I may need advice on. Seems like some others here have their ETron's already.

I got mine, you are in for a treat...

  4. Nice... just spoke to the dealer this past Friday, apparently ours is in the US, has not cleared customs yet, but is scheduled to be delivered in the next 10 to 15 days depending upon how quickly they can get it transported to the dealer.

Our electricians are coming this week to install our charging station at home - went for the juicebox 32 hardwire.

Might I suggest going for the Juice Box 40, if your panel and electrical service can handle the 9.6 kW load? The E-Tron will take the full 9.6 kW charge rate all the way to 100% SOC, and the 40 will cut time off of every charge (trust me, there will be a time you need the charge as fast as you can get it). I previously had a Blink 5 kW box, that was part of the EV project back in 2012, it was so slow, and after a road trip if you came home with the car empty it was 15 hours to fully charge it.

  6. We're pretty flexible. Right now, keeping with the 32 just so that we have a connection when the car gets here. We can definitely upgrade in the future and the current juicebox would just be headed off to our inlaws place... so we're kind of just playing this one by ear and see how it works out. 15 hours is a long time to full charge, but we don't drive more than 40 or 50 miles a day and maybe only three or four times a week, so it hopefully shouldn't be a problem... sweet looking photos BTW - we got the Manhattan Grey with tan interior.

Nice, I like the Manhattan Grey, Audi has some very nice colors. We settled on the Galaxy Blue as I felt it looks like a high tech color, and we have been thrilled with how it looks in person. I was concerned as a month after we ordered the car, Audi sent us a color sample, and I got the feeling they were wanting to convince us to choose another color, but I guess that is just a normal Audi service when you order a car. Interestingly, we have had several people come up and comment on the color when we were stopped, and even a guy in a lifted Dodge Diesel pickup thought it was a nice looking car. I had originally ordered a brown colored interior, but charged it at the last moment to black as my wife shared her input.

  9. Got our charging unit installed the other day... used Have Power here in Washington DC, they did an awesome job. Posted a bunch of photos to our flickr acct - if anyone cares to check them out - EV Charging Album Earth and Main

On the web link, I see photos of both the Chargepoint and Juicebox for home use. Which one is yours and what amperage did you install?

Edit: Oops, I see in earlier posts you installed the Juicebox 32.

Awesome, you are ready... I noticed in the picture it looks like your contractor fed the charger with Aluminum wire, I really prefer Copper for EV charger installations as the loading is different than any other circuit in your home (oven, hot water, A/C), as the EV charger circuit runs at maximum current for hours at a time, and Aluminum wire has a tendency to heat a bit more than copper. Likely never be a problem, but it caught my eye in one of your pictures. We run 6-3 copper for the EV chargers in the houses we build with a 50 Amp breaker, unless someone has the 80 Amp Tesla, which we serve with larger wire, and 100 Amp breaker.

  14. Yep. We did the JuiceBox 32 and then we have a house in CT where we did the ChargePoint... figured test them both out. I have not be back up to the CT house yet to see the installation, but that one was relatively easy - panel was in the house, down to the basement which is completely open and then straight line out to the driveway... I was quoted $600 for the full install. Feel like that was a pretty good deal.

  15. Hmmm. Yes, now that I remember it, it was aluminum. Good point on the heat, but feel like its not a big issue... Have Power is one of the preferred installers recommended by Tesla, and they had great online recommendations so I figured they knew what they were doing.

  16. I am looking around for some sort of an outdoor cover for units... figure it might be nice / helpful in winter when there's a bit of snow out or just crappy weather. I have outdoor vent covers on the exhausts from both house, but the downward slope / angle is a little steep... any ideas... suppose I could easily get a few custom made.

Ya, Aluminum is fine, that is just my old school nature that likes copper. I tend to go overboard on many things, especially my own house.

    hello all,

I'll be picking up my 2nd ETron next week. The 1st ETron I got in May was a total disaster. A few issues being a 1st gen car. But the deal breaker was the car would not charge and I got stranded at an L3 station on Hwy 5 in CA. Needless to say I returned it to Audi Corp. They threw in a special deal and agreed to send me a brand new car. So I'm hoping this time around it will be smooth sailing. Much appreciated if someone can give some insights to the questions below.
    1. Any benefits using a 3rd-party charger like JuiceBox vs the Audi charger?
    2. Does the JuiceBox come with cable management? If not any suggestions?

    Thanks again.

I do not believe your post, especially with your generalizations, but if true which I highly doubt, thanks for teaching Audi a lesson as our car has been perfect so far 2400 miles and counting. Level 3 charger cables sticking is a known issue and Audi sent a letter to all customers explaining what to do in that situation, it has not happened to us, yet. It typically only happens when you play in the car during charging, or run the HVAC during charging which we have not done.

Not sure why you don't believe my post but if you are the type that only believes in your own hype then more powerful to you. I never said anything about the charging cable not releasing issue, which we did get a notice for. I'm glad your car has been working well for you and I'm hoping my new one will be the same. I simply asked for some insights of 3rd-party control units. If you don't have anything to say then no need to be cynical.

I don't believe you as this is your first post on this media, and some of the claims do not make sense as to what others have experienced. Also a buyback is a complicated process, and you did not share any details, photos etc. What I post is not hype, but actual experience, do you know the difference?

On your earlier questions, does Audi have a wall box? In my area they recommend people go through Amazon for an install. I installed Juicebox 40 myself replacing my older Blink unit from 2012, works great so far. Not sure what your second question about cord management is? Are you thinking online charge management?
