Yes, I did. So far I noticed a difference in a drive info screen that wasn't there before. I think it was in the EV menu somewhere where it summarized some driving info with graphs of how fast I was going and acceleration and deceleration that definitely wasn't there before. I also noticed that the fast charger half way between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, at Baker, CA is still NOT in the map. So the map is still totally useless! VERY big disappointment! I bought my Kona 2 weeks ago, but my maps are OLD: NAM.11.47.44.465.108.2 Looks like I need to get them updated!
Did your dealer upload them when you picked it up? Mine did (3 months ago). But of course the SD card could be sitting there for a while too. Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk
I'm in the U.S. and got notified of a map update (v NA.12.41.51.593 (v13.0)). So far, so good. When I log into mapnsoft.com to download the map update it identifies my Kona EV as "2019 Hyundai Kona (Iron Man Edition)". Well, I know my Kona EV is based on advanced technology, but having seen an Iron Man Edition Kona, I can tell you mine isn't one. Dare I install this map update into my non-Iron Man Kona EV? Will it suddenly sprout wings?
I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. If it sprouts wings, you'll probably get better mileage anyways, so good luck on that. However, do not expect anything great from that update. Chargers will still be missing from the map and roads are still outdated. At least here in Nevada. I only use Google maps on Android auto. Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk
They told me ready in 3 weeks, and that was at the end of May. Now it says, Out of Stock??!! How can you be out of stock on a software download??
I thought you get 2 free updates a year? Is that only if you do it on your own and not via the dealer?
I have not tried to update, with or without the dealer's involvement, nor have inquired if they do charge. But it would make sense if the updates were available free of charge via Hyundai Corp and the owner. From what I have learned on this thread, I don't want to bother the dealer techs with something like that as they have been exceptional so far with real issues, and I want to keep it that way. Not worth it from what I have read to this point.
Ok my original post was asking for anyone who had it done!!! lol. But thanks for your opinions on the dealer techs
This is one of the reasons (along with current finances) I'm balking about an EV right now. Tesla gets free over the air updates so the car stays up to date till the hardware can't keep up (like phones.) I'm scared of buying such a tech focused car that's stuck with 2019 software in 2025 and beyond.
The discussion above about the silly new "Driving Info" screen is at least proof that the software can be updated, though I can't envision any radical changes coming for Grandma Kona, or even any cool games to while away those non-Supercharger hours. As for navigation, the situation in North America is really intolerable. Some road names are at least a decade out of date, whole subdivisions don't exist, and in my area no chargepoints installed in the last 3 years or more are shown. Other Hyundai owners must surely be using the same data provider and howling in protest? Yes, your phone is a good substitute but only if you have a generous data plan.
Its only the Nav map updates that are glitch ridden , the car itself works wonderfully and I feel its the best value out there right now. 6 years from now there will definitely be more reasons to purchase new (more range, better efficiency, autonomy etc) . I am hoping that my Kona EV will still supply close to the same range as it does now, which I feel is more important than "software updates".
Yes, data is totally out of date and what bugs me most is not necessarily that it is it of date but that a company like Hyundai has a "partner" that's supposed to take care of it and provide a service. If that was me, I would be ashamed of my service! And would have to rethink my business. But I know that's not how the world works, service doesn't matter anymore. As for data service on your phone. Plug in the route into Google maps at home, then hit the download button and download the map onto your phone using WiFi. Then your actual data usage is very limited. Guess what!! The map site now finally says I can Place an Order. So am downloading the latest maps right now. Will do the car install once I have some time and have it all figured out.
