I think it also has some other extras like turning lights on mirrors and folding mirrors.

I've not heard of DC charging for PHEVs- at least in this country. I wonder what the cost impact of adding it would be versus the market demand. To me it would be a definite differentiator- given that the number of DC stations will be increasing over the next few years. Full charging times would be in minutes- not hours

Ditto, for sure, where in one year of Clarity ownership I have seen exactly 0 other Clarity's (except on dealership lots). Yet our local dealer recently told me with a straight face that they were selling +/- 12 Clarity PHEV's per month! And, amazingly, all of the 2018 Clarity's they had in inventory have now vanished, there are no 2019's and the Clarity is not even mentioned on their web site anymore. Anybody have a clue about this "disappearance" phenomenon?

Cars that suddenly “disappear” from your local dealer’s lot haven’t necessarily found an eager buyer. Sometimes ownership groups have multiple dealerships and cars that aren’t selling on one lot will simply be moved to another one of their sites. I also spoke with a salesperson in PA yesterday who told me that they haven’t been getting the Clarity there since the end of 2018 when, after having four sitting on their lot for quite a few months, they were sold as a group to a dealership in NY where (probably due to state specific incentives) there’s greater interest in the Clarity.

Of course, thanks to the current manufacturer to dealer incentives and the resulting deals that folks are now able to make (see “Price Paid” thread), it’s also possible that the disappearance of the 2018 Clarity is indeed the result of them being purchased by smart independent consumers.

Somebody in a Clarity between Waco and Temple waved at me in my Clarity. Had a very short-lived caravan of two Claritys :p

Yes, having the option to use a DC fast charger that bypasses the AC-DC convertor would save lots of time make charging more efficient & faster.
Having seen new shopping malls with lots more DCFC stations as opposed to J1772, it seems to show they support the BEV cars and not PHEV.......

Chalk it up to the difference between necessity and convenience. The range anxiety BEV drivers experience means they're more likely to take advantage of available charging stations than PHEV drivers who can get by just fine on ICE power. Also, based on how long it takes to charge a BEV, BEV drivers are more likely to spend more time in the shopping mall than PHEV drivers, which makes the merchants happy.

They're selling fast right now in CA at least because the current incentives are insane. I bought one this week and it will be about $17.5k after the $1500 dealer incentive, $6000 CostCo Auto incentive, $1500 CA rebate and $7500 federal rebate.

I've seen a handful in San Diego. There's one other one that's always at the EV chargers in my work's parking garage.

Actually the $6,000 incentive is from Honda, available only for California and Oregon. Costco merely reports the incentive on their website. Although some people have reported that some dealers are not cooperative about passing the incentive on to the customer since apparently they don't have to. So going through Costco can be helpful in making sure you get the $6,000 incentive.

That $6,000 is unadvertised Honda incentive in California and Oregon for the dealer. It's up to the dealerships to do with it as they please. It has nothing to do with Costco. I didn't go through Costco and I got the $6,000 off and plus some dealer discount.

Also check your power company for possible rebate/credit. SCE in Southern California has a $1000 rebate.

The Mitsubishi outlander Phev has it. It's likely due to the popularity of Chademo in Japan, those types of chargers are more common.

Just saw a white one an hour ago, interstate 99 south, near Altoona PA. Anything with a plug is a super rarity in this neck of the woods.

I'm seeing a bunch of new clarities in NYC these past couple of days.
Including a new black one near my office on a regular basis now.

I saw a moonlight pearl Clarity at the interchange of I-69 and I-94 in Michigan last Wednesday (6/12/19). Since it was heading toward Ann Arbor, maybe @insightman ?

Not me. So there must be at least 2 green Claritys in Michigan! Our Clarity has only been that far from Ann Arbor once and that was last September.

  21. I've been seeing one or two a day here in Los Angeles. Good to see these things gaining traction.

Saw a black Clarity on a Virginia Tech's campus on Friday. Not that I'd been looking before I bought mine, but that's the first I've seen in the wild besides my own.

UPDATE: Woo-hoo! After a little more than a full year on the road with my own Clarity PHEV, yesterday I finally saw another Clarity in the wild in a northern suburb of Dallas -- a black one, in the process of parking at a fast food place. I whooped out loud in celebration, but my wife thought I was about to crash. Anyway, now, officially, I have seen 1 other Clarity (NOT on a dealership lot), still looking for my first unicorn though ....
