I know I saw mention of this in another thread (perhaps the 'bugs' one?) but I couldn't find it again via search. The Honda site (as of 2/15/18) lists 'Auto Highbeams' as a standard feature yet I KNOW my lights have not automatically dimmed with oncoming traffic. Anyone have any luck with this? Here's a screenshot of the page on the Honda site.

My theory is this was a late scratch of a feature. It has definitely been listed before the vehicle came out but I'm pretty sure it never made it to any production models. That's a shame since I've never had that feature on a car I have owned yet.

I have it on my Genesis. It works just fine, but I wouldn't say it's a must half. It's pretty sensitive and only turns the lights on on darker roads

I don't think it makes much difference on the Clarity - very little "high beam" performance to begin with - substantially weaker than any prior vehicle we've owned, including the 2018 Odyssey...

I had auto dimming on my Avalon, but it would not always dim soon enough for the oncoming drivers. I got 'flashed' alot, so am telling myself that I don't miss the feature.

I bet it varies by auto maker. My hyundai worked as good as if i was the one adjusting it. It was a neat feature, but not something i would expect on any honda. Acura maybe...

The Clarity PHEV does NOT have auto high beams. I recall seeing that feature as well, but there is no mention of it in the owner's manual that I could find.

The other feature that seems to have been deleted late in the process was the auto sensing windshield wipers. It was listed as a feature back in the late November 2017 timeframe.

  13. They sure look cool, but Are the headlights actually better than the last generation halogen bulbs for its real purpose...

I hate the auto high beams on my F150 so I don’t miss them. However, auto wipers would be great. I’m just glad it’s smart enough to turn on the headlights with the wipers.

Ha, I just asked this question in the Clarity Issue thread as the Canadian Brochure said it has a 'Smart Wiper System' and the dealer said it means Auto Wiper. If it is not, then I wonder what is this Smart Wiper mean?

The Canadian Brochure also indicates it has 'LED headlights with auto-on/off (High and low beam)', to me it means auto-on/off high beam. Can any non-Canadian check their brochure and see if they have this feature?

The US version has no smart wiper system, in fact it is one of my least favorite part of the car, the fluid tank is tiny and it runs through washer fluid rapidly. It doesn't have spray nozzels and instead dribbles fluid out the wipers missing the top of the blade.

Viking79, sorry not sure what you mean when you said 'my least favorite part...'.

Do you mean Smart Wiper System means that instead of having a spray nozzle like most car, this car has fluid coming out of the wiper itself and it waste a lot of wiper fluid but doesn't clean the windshield properly and that's why it is one of your least favorite part of the car? And Smart Wiper is not the same as Auto-Sensing Wiper.

Correct, I am not a fan of the wipers :) Not that they are terrible, but the don't do a great job cleaning road grime off and run out of fluid quickly. They should be fine for rain.

I see nothing smart about them, they have usual intermittent settings. Lights will turn on automatically after a bit. Otherwise they work like most other cars.

Thanks for all the discussion (even though it's off topic, I'll add that I remember seeing the auto wiper feature in late '17 and also noticed it seems to be missing....)

I emailed Honda about the headlights. First they referred me to the headlight section in the owners manual - when I told them it said nothing about the high-beams they emailed me the following.

    "Dear [XXXXXXXX],

Thank you for reaching out back to us again. It appears that you have to click the lever forward and have the lights set to Auto. The Standard Auto High-Beam Headlights will automatically dim when the other vehicle are detected and the LED Headlights further light the road ahead.

If you still have questions regarding this feature, we recommend you visit your local Honda dealership so they can show you how the feature works. They would be in the best position to further assist you with this inquiry.

We welcome you to contact us with any additional comments or questions. You are also able to reach us by calling 800-999-1009, option 7. Please reference the case number when calling.

I replied back indicating that doesn't seem to work and referred them to this thread. I'll post any updates.

So you tried that and it didn't work? Maybe, and this is a big maybe, auto-dimming will be a standard feature going forward that is always active so there doesn't need to be a special setting for it on the stalk anymore. Yeah, right. Who am I kidding?

Sounds like a future class action suit. Looking forward to my $3.46 check while some lawyer makes millions.

we should demand a fix- it is the weakest part of the car and a safety issue!

I'd like to second this (third? fourth?). The wiper system is bizarrely bad. The small dribble of water and the poor blades couldn't even wipe streak-free the first time I used it. It's a bigger problem with snow and ice. My 2009 Nissan Altima easily handles light snow and some icing over. The Clarity cannot wipe any ice off the windshield. Really awful. Who came up with this nozzle-free system anyway? There must be some weather conditions under which it works better than the traditional wiper fluid delivery system. Maybe someone here can comment why they love it?

P.S.: Apologies for hijacking a auto high-beam thread. I realize that wiper complaints should go elsewhere.
