I live in Texas, and my husband and I are kicking around the idea of trying to buy one and have it shipped. I’m just wondering if anyone has done that. Did you have a dealer contact? How did you search? Any strategies would be helpful.

I'm in Virginia and am looking to get a Soul EV from Maryland. I'm only in the initial talking to dealers phase, but they are saying that selling to me from a non-ZEV state is a non-issue. I'm sure it helps that dealers in Maryland suburbs of DC are probably used to seeing to Virginians just across the Potomac. We'll see how smoothly it goes when it happens.

  4. Just my two cents: I bought it in California, however the dealer made sure I'm from a ZEV state. We are in the process of moving from Oregon to Nevada. I just didn't mention anything like that and technically we were living in Oregon when they sold it to me. Although I never driven it up there and since it's been just a little bit ago I'll not register it in Oregon either.

I got a fresh update from a Texas dealer today: he said that hyundai corporate still won't tell him anything, and that he saw dealers in Maryland marking up the one or two Kona EVs by 5k on a recent trip out that way. He was extremely skeptical that he could get one to trade one out to him.

That being said, I have heard of a Kona being shipped to Minnesota, so it can be done. At this point though, good luck getting one at MSRP even from the east coast: the supply problem seems to be getting worse not better. I am personally quite frustrated with Hyundai and their lack of communication or coherent strategy

Sales are declining badly, evidently because of supply chain problems.

  10. I'm wondering why they sell them in all markets when they can't even serve one.

It's a good question, and while I am definitely not eager to say it, a Hyundai dealer told me that it definitely has to do with compliance. His quote straight from the district manager as to why Hyundai won't be shipping cars outside ZEV states anytime soon, at least not directly to dealers.

I suppose we could consider commending Hyundai for even sending cars to the US, contrasted with KIA's current strategy of endless silent delays of the e-Niro here. There may not be many Kona EVs, but they do exist...

This exact interstate process went smoothly for me 4 weeks ago when I purchased a Kona EV in MD and took it home across the Potomac.

Shouldn’t be an isssue, as long as they have the vehicle you want at their dealership.

I'm here in Canada what is a non zev and zev state mean thanks

  15. It's states that mandate Zero Emission Vehicles. Some of those are California, Oregon, Washington. Here at the West coast. Those are the only ones I definitely know of since I'm from the West coast.
I know there is some on the east coast as well.

I had talked to Hyundai dealer in Arizona and I broached the idea of buying the car in CA but using it Arizona. He pointed that the local dealers are not really equipped to service such vesicles (full BEVs as opposed to PHEV) and any service would be on the best effort basis. Again this may be that the guy was trying to keep my buying a car for some time, but that is something you may want to check into.

  21. Hey I'm in Pittsburgh too, just got mine 10 days ago from Cumberland, MD. What color did you get?

I got the blue one...Cumberland would have been a better choice, but it worked out. Glad to hear someone else got one too. I have a friend in Madison, WI who can’t find one anywhere.

  23. I got blue too, love the color. Yeah Cumberland wasn't too bad, about 2 hours. They had 2 more other than the one I bought, and he said they'd sold the first two a month earlier, one to a guy in Pittsburgh and the other to someone in Tennessee!
