Will it Tow?

No mention of towing capacity, so I'm guessing not. It would be nice to have at least a 2000lb towing to make it a useful SUV/CUV.

  3. No mention of towing, but I'd be a little surprised if it didn't.

Like many of today's latest EV's coming to market, it is not clear what the "official" take is on towing, but many buyers
intend to do at least some light duty towing such as I do with my 2017 Volt. My dealer was fine with installing the Curt hitch, but
would not do the wiring involved to attach a trailer. I just wish that the manufacturers would just bite the bullet and prepare the
proper towing equipment and establish limitations for towing as they do with other vehicles. The ability to tow at least a light duty
trailer for utility or sports equipment (paddleboards and kayaks for example) is a very common need for many prospective buyers.
I can't afford a Model X, but I certainly expect the Model Y to be capable of some light duty towing.

    Ssssshhhhhuuuusssshhhh!

Don't Google "Tesla towing" or this: http://hiwaay.net/~bzwilson/dragonfly/aircraft_carrier.html

    Actually, I've put a receiver hitch on every Prius we've owned: 2003 (Gen-1); 2010 (Gen-3), and; 2017 Prius Prime (Gen-4 plugin).

These transmissions have no 'slip' parts to generate excessive, towing heat. There are suspension and wiring challenges that are trivial to solve.

My guess is it will be the same as was recently released for model 3. Which is you can have a tow hitch but only if you order it on a new car and it's a $1000 option.

Hey Gareth, believe that option is currently only for Europe, my US option page doesn't have it. Definitely hoping it will in the near future. What's up with that? Same car!

So tell me Bob, your opinion on putting a hitch on my '13 model S to pull a little utility trailer. If I have it correctly / professionally done, if possible to avoid the different metals rusting problems, correctly wired, and I know it can handle the weight safely but will the car freak out with something close behind? IE no tow mode.

I would have no problem doing it . . . but then it isn't my car. The biggest challenge will be the light system that needs active electronics. These are not going to be traditional 12V incandescent bulb systems but lower power, LED. You need a high impedance amplifier with a separate 12V power source.

2021 Model Y with stock hitch. It is rated at 3500lbs towing capacity. I've only put bike rack on it but I wouldn't hesitate to tow.

That's a bit pricey. You can also put an aftermarket one that is hidden also. For easy access and installation of your bike carrier, you can add a hitch extender. I know Blue Ox towing has receiver extensions.

I ordered a MYLR with the $1K tow package that has a 30-day delivery window beginning Feb. 24. Everything I've read says the MY can tow up to 3,500 lbs. The Tesla tow package can also be installed after delivery but it's $1,200.00...
